My new Y7 curriculum based on ideas from my first paper (in JBE). Six lessons on "Cells in Systems" led us to co-enacting this model with a nice "What if?" to trigger predictions & generate rich feedback for me.

Today I taught mammalian thermoregulation with a stock and flow model.
This one is great for making two distinctions that students find difficult:
1. Heat gain & heat loss
2. Mammals work to regulate *internal* body temperature

Continuing with creating stock and flow models in Year 7, today we co-enacted the meaning of these diagrams.
We then dropped balls from 1m to see how high they bounce and infer how much energy is lost to the thermal store.

This year I'm focusing on developing new stock and flow models in Year 7. We're currently studying the energy stores model.
Yesterday we built this model and explored its consequences together through "What if?" questions.
