Roughly in the centre of the frame and about a third of the way up is a tiny pink flower. There are four or five others throughout the photo thought not in sharp focus. They're growing up surrounded by light green striped stems topped with black.

Look carefully! Our Marsh Valerian (Valeriana dioica) is just coming into flower. It's Near Threatened in England, though doing quite well here in the Valley, and isn't Scarce throughout Oxon.

One of our volunteers grew these Flea sedge (Carex pulicaris) from seed, and this week we planted them out in the fen. Near Threatened on #EnglandRedList, and rare in County. When the seeds are ripe and dry, they jump off if touched, just like a flea...

On such a dull morning, here's one of our "Bog Stars" to brighten your day. ☺️
Our Grass-of-Parnassus (Parnassia palustris) are coming into flower across the fen. Vulnerable on the #EnglandRedList, they're #Rare in Oxon. We're gradually increasing their number by spreading seed.

Parsley Water-dropwort (Oenanthe lachenalii).
Near Threatened on @BSBIbotany's #EnglandRedList, it's rare in Oxon, but is thriving here in the Lye Valley, with 100s of plants. Our entry for @wildflower_hour's #WetlandPlants on #BogDay2021.

We planted some Common Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) by one of our ponds earlier in the year, and it's now in flower! Near Threatened on @BSBIbotany's #EnglandRedList, it's our contribution to @wildflower_hour's #ByTheWater.

Success!
We spotted these Grass-of-Parnassus (Parnassia palustris) rosettes in the fen last week. Rare in Oxon and Vulnerable on #EnglandRedList.
Over the last 2 years, we've been spreading seed (using this hi-tech small hole in plastic bag + water + seed technique). It works!

Planting Flea sedge (Carex pulicaris) seedlings, grown from seed collected in the south fen section of our #SSSI. Scarce in Oxon, it's Near Threatened on the #EnglandRedList.
In a nice twist, the first national record of this plant was also from the Lye Valley. In the 1660s. 😎

Just planted some Common Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) round our ponds. Sadly no longer as common as it was, it's on the #EnglandRedList as NT. We already have some on site, but would like more. We got the plants from Rivermead, in exchange for some Marsh Lousewort seeds. 😊

Plants of the Lye Valley:
Lesser Spearwort (Ranunculus flammula). A small buttercup of wet sites with spear-shaped linear leaves, unlike other buttercups. Vulnerable on the #EnglandRedList. Has long lived seed and gives us joy by "coming back from the dead" upon fen restoration!

Plants of the Lye Valley:
Tormentil (Potentilla erecta). NT on #EnglandRedList. Looks like a buttercup but is actually in the Rose family. What it needs above all is low-nutrient conditions, being a small, delicate plant with no competitive ability...

The Lye Valley now holds THE LAST POPULATION of this plant in Oxfordshire.
