A group of UCL researchers gathered in front of a banner reading Euro Crim 2024
Lots of interesting presentations at #EuroCrim2024 in Bucharest this week. It was great to be able to catch up with UCL Crime Science researchers past and present, especially those who are based around the world.
My highlight of #Eurocrim2024 was the announcement by Volkan Topalli, editor-in-chief of Criminology, that the journal will be implementing registered reports in the coming years.
Together with other steps towards #OpenScience, it sounded like the rebirth of the discipline's flagship journal.

Me, looking a bit glum frankly, sitting on a seat that is too low for the desk.
Two perspectives.
My view, as I prepare for my role as critic for @alettesmeulers.bsky.social new book on atrocity perpetrators.
My colleague's, who observes, 'you look like a kid at an all-adult table'. 🤣
I feel seen!

We're gonna need a bigger auditorium 🦈
The best attended panel session I saw at #Eurocrim was on cinema and criminology and moved to fit us all in.
Here, Elena Georgaki & Michiel van der Wolf analyse 20 years of forensic psychiatry in Dutch film and TV.

Things you don't expect at #eurocrim: state-sponsored genocide denial.
(Not as a topic of discussion, rather as a thing in its own right)

Great first panel on ethics, well-being and emotions in researching challenging topics. Interesting work going on on this in Bath:
