Sherele Moody (Femicide Research... & @ShereleMoody On Saturday, Mitchell Hopkins, 30, attacked his mother (allegedly) at her home in Redfern, NSW. Lauren Hopkins was taken to hospital in critical condition. She has died, NSW Police confirmed a short time ago. The 47-year-old is the 29th Australian woman killed this year and the 132nd woman killed since January 1, 2024. Her death means we have lost FOUR women to violence in seven days. Almost all the women killed this year have been erased by violent men and most in the domestic violence setting. So here we are again. Fucking again. If women were killing men at this rate, the country would be up in arms. If sharks were killing Australians at this rate, they'd be culled. If dingoes were killing Australians at this rate, there'd be 10 million forms of new policy, and billions of dollars being committed to ending their violence. And Anthony Albanese would be fronting media and calling for all stops to be pulled out to save lives. But we're just women. We don't matter.

Yesterday, a 46-year-old woman tried to stop a fight in Yarrawonga, Victoria. A man involved in that fight ran her over with his car. He left the scene. She could not be saved. She is the 24th Australian woman killed this year. The man is in police custody. It's not yet known if he is known to the woman. It's beyond devastating to see woman after woman killed and yet the apathy is not changing. We can't even get Anthony Albanese and Peter Dutton to speak their names during an election campaign - the time when they need women's votes the most.
