Trump is exempting some areas #tariffs for a reason: he recognizes we need those things. By targeting those with #exportduties along with other targeted tariffs would give other countries maximum impact on the US economy, shortening the trade war.
By imposing #exportduties in this way, the trade war Trump started would be over quickly as the US imports far more and export duties on products essential to industry and consumers here would have a far greater impact on our #economy.
In the short term #exportduties imposed by other countries may be painful but if they were targeted at industries Trump is trying to protect by exempting those products from #tariffs it would disrupt his ability to control the outcome. If he raised tariffs, the could impose more duties.
