Efficient Computer’s Fabric Architecture Challenges von Neumann Model Efficient Computer has announced the release of its first hardware product, the Electron E1 processor, along with the effcc Compiler, marking a major milestone for the Pittsburgh-based startup focused on revolutionizing energy-efficient computing. At the heart of the launch is Efficient’s proprietary Fabric architecture, a spatial dataflow design that reimagines the traditional compute model. Unlike von Neumann processors that waste energy shuttling data between memory and processing units, the E1 (Figure 1) enables general-purpose code execution without costly, step-by-step computation.
