This lovely piece is by Niels Eric From (1908-1986) born in Denmark. He opened his first workshop in 1931. His earlier pieces reflected the natural environment, while in later years, from the early 60s tended to be more brutalist. The floral-inspired works of the 30-40s derived from the Skønvirke style, a Scandinavian development that appeared during Denmark’s Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts movement and usually took inspiration from natural designs like flower and foliage motifs as well as natural creatures like fish. This piece is from those early days and they are increasingly difficult to find. I did do a lot of research and mostly came up with 60-70s brutalist pieces, which are quite cool, but I love the delicacy of the early pieces. This brooch is climbing stems and leaves. I have only cleaned it a little because it was black. If you want to get into the corners you’ll need a polishing cloth. I suggest sunshine cloths, that what I use, but there are liquid solutions you can dunk your fine jewelry in that will leave them dazzling. Note, any change to the condition, i.e. cleaning, does make this a final sale. I think it’s lovely as is though. It gives depth to the leaves and adds dimension. In excellent condition, you are sure to love this. Please review all photos as they do constitute a major part of the description. Thanks.
