It took almost a full week for Anders’ heat to become manageable, though it was still a bit active due to Fenris’ persistence in pleasing it, and for his health to improve, and for his guilt to get so strong that he had to leave the mansion. Fenris walked him to the clinic, helped him clean up the dried up pools of slick and the mess of blood and panic in his little room in the back, and then Anders shooed him away with a smile and thanks, so that he could get to work healing. Fenris returned in the evening and Anders smiled, exhausted, and let himself be walked back to the mansion in order to be pushed down into the clean sheets and taken with kisses and hands and knot. Anders had never slept so well or eaten so much, Fenris was sure, and Fenris too slept without nightmares, more deeply than he ever thought he could allow. But then Anders pushed him away, a little smile on his lips, and told him that he had more work to do, work that Fenris would be bored sitting around and waiting for him for. Fenris didn’t like it and he stayed that night, in the clinic, unwilling to leave Anders for long, and they made love against the poor excuse of the desk until one of the legs broke off and then they finished against the wall. Fenris fell asleep, wrapped around his mage, while Anders wrote his manifesto on the floor next to the nest of blankets.
She ran her fingers, carefully, through his hair, but there was no spark of pleasure in it like there was when it was the hand of his mage on him. “And that’s why you dressed up for him. You wanted to seduce him.” “It would not work, not when I look like this?” “Like the most handsome man in Kirkwall? Well, okay, second most handsome.” Her eyes drifted over to Varric and his own exposed chest, “I don’t blame you for copying his fashion. Rawr!” Fenris glared at her. Varric grinned and coughed into his hand. “Thing is, Fenris, I don’t think you need to work so hard at this. Especially not if your way of getting his attention is with your body. We all know he finds you attractive, who doesn’t? But you helped him through his heat, and it sounds like it was a crazy long hard heat at that, so maybe it’s that he thinks you only want him for sex? I mean, I get that, the man was fantastic at sex! I would get with him every night just for that, but that’s what he’s used to in a relationship, I think. He told me once that there was no love in the circle but everyone was fucking. He might think you only want him for his body too.” Fenris glared at her. “He is far more than just a sex object!” “And does he know that?” “He must, we killed his Alpha together, I told him…”
