My review of A Far Better Thing by H.G. Parry. #fantasybooks #fantasybookreview

3 0 0 0
Post image I gave every book in this series 5 Stars. I'm stingy with 5-star ratings. I'm old. I'm jaded. These books just did it for me EVERY TIME. I haven't been this emotionally affected by a book since Tigana. I got goosebumps at least once per book, probably more. I didn't actually cry, but I got pretty damn sad. Like Tigana I wanted to throw the book at some point, but I was listening to it on my phone so that might not have been great.

I've been writing on and off my whole life and I'm currently writing. This book is inspiring me to be a better writer. It's forced me to think, "What is Mr. Castell doing that I'm not?" and "How can I make my readers feel like his writing is making me feel right now?" So I gave all my characters trenchcoats and named my 3 main characters: Kalcio, Best, and Frasti. Totally kidding (maybe).

Definitely looking forward to the other books set in this world, even if they don't have the characters I've come to know and love in them (I'm not sure if they do, haven't looked into them yet). Also will be checking out the rest of Castell's catalog ASAP.

"The Frost Giant's Tomb" is one of the best books I have read so far in 2025. Perfect for anyone who likes Indiana Jones/Raiders of the Lost Ark, Robert E. Howard/Conan the Barbarian, and Charles Moffat's previous book "The Blizzard's Daughter".

Review: A Dragon of the Veil by Nick Snape — SFF Insiders Dark, action-packed epic fantasy with a compelling protagonist. Snape throws you into a unique world where you have to piece together a truly alien invasion.

In case you missed it, @monteroauthor.bsky.social has reviewed my twisted, action-filled dark fantasy, A Dragon of the Veil, for SFFInsiders. I think I blew his mind. For a fantasy with a difference, check out: www.sffinsiders.com/blog/review-... #booksky #fantasybooksky #fantasybookreview 💙🐉📚⚔️

What a great mix of diverse cast, dark consequences of war, audacious dialogue, found family and swashbuckling steam punk adventure!

Book cover for What Moves The Dead by T. Kingfisher Very creepy picture of a hare standing in it's back legs, mushrooms sprouting out of its back

Book 35
A chilling, atmospheric retelling of The Fall of the House of Usher. While not overly gory, it’s eerie and engaging. Strong characters and a queer-normalized world make it a standout, even for non-horror fans.

Cover for A Sorceress Comes to Call by T. Kingfisher

Painted trees around a black circle, stars all over, and the title in the middle

Cover for A Sorceress Comes to Call by T. Kingfisher Painted trees around a black circle, stars all over, and the title in the middle

Book 34
Darker than expected, tackling themes like coercion, body autonomy, & murder.
Still featuring signature well-crafted, relatable, female characters. Refreshing romance for the older woman, not the teen & authentic friendships.
