A marmot occupies a narrow dirt trail winding through an alpine meadow filled with green foliage and purple wildflowers. In the background, the massive, snow-covered Mount Logan inside the North Cascades National Park rises majestically against a clear blue sky, flanked by fir trees.

So while reaching for the binoculars, I was like, "Huh, those jumping dolphins are kinda small, I wonder what species-"

And then I got hungry.

Ever seen a tuna feeding frenzy? Well you have now:

Been at sea for almost a week now, but we've gone straight out into the mid ocean. Briefly saw a blue whale, but not in time to get a picture or video. So instead, if I give you a coyote from my yard shortly before I set sail for this #FaunaFriday

I fairly frequently see albatross while offshore and they always make me happy. Usually they're wheeling in the distance, but occasionally they'll come in for a closer peek.

The oldest known individual is named Wisdom. She's at least 74 years old, and hatched a chick just this year!

Didn't think I'd have anything good to share for #FaunaFriday today, and while I was thinking that, a humpback whale decided to prove me wrong. So, here, have a humpback whale proving me wrong!

The ship barely moves when tied up, but it *does* move, which is why the osprey on the right is wondering why it feels like it's on the slowest elevator to nowhere.

Dolphins and porpoises tend to enjoy bow riding around the front of moving ships, boats, even whales. Orca, on the other hand, seem to prefer wake riding behind them, such as this sub-pod I saw recently (there were more nearby doing other things). Plus one jump for joy!

Just in time for #FaunaFriday, I had a pod of several hundred Common Dolphins come by yesterday afternoon! Must have been a full square mile of jumping and splashing. They live up to their name around Southern California; I've seen them in groups of thousands.

I've got the most American #FaunaFriday content you'll ever see: a bald eagle on the loading arms of an oil refinery cargo dock.

Back to the ship, so back to posting! Today I saw a miles-long raft of Velella Velella, or "By-The-Wind Sailors" which are a benign little cousin of the Portuguese Man-o-War. Hard to tell from so high up, but very neat to see them at sea, and not washed up on a beach. #FaunaFriday

Something a little different for #FaunaFriday today, this here is my local roadrunner. A pair live behind my house and I see them more days than not. Ever wondered what they actually sound like in real life? Turn on the volume. Also check out the spots changing color behind his eyes!

I'm back home! But man do I have a lot of saved videos. For #FaunaFriday I'm sharing, perhaps introducing, the Dall's Porpoise. These little guys look like what you'd get if you described an orca to a six year old, and then gave them crayons to draw it with. I love the derby little things so much <3

For #FaunaFriday with a Valentine’s Day angle, evidence of a close human-animal relationship. On the animal’s terms of course, β€˜pet’ is a relative term with a πŸˆβ€β¬›
