In this oil painting, a man naked from the waist up leans back in apparent agony, leaning on his bent left arm. There are small bloody wounds in front of his right shoulder and to the right of his belly button. Behind him stand two women conversing. The one to the viewer's left, wearing a blue dress, holds a candle. The one in almost the center of the painting, wearing brown, appears to hold a portion of an arrow (just extracted from the man's shoulder) in her right hand; her left hand rests on top of a white cloth on his right shoulder.
