Something about it transported Xie Lian right back in time to the old days in the palace, where he'd whisper a joke to Feng Xin during dull banquets that dragged on endlessly, and his best friend would burst into peals of wild laughter, clutching his ribs, gasping for air. For a moment, Xie Lian couldn't breathe too, hit by a gut punch of nostalgia so strong that it stole the air from his own lungs. He didn’t realize he was staring until Nan Feng asked, “Daozhang, what is it?” “Nothing. It’s just…” Xie Lian paused, then glanced back at Nan Feng with a smile. “...You remind me of an old friend.” AU in which Feng Xin, disguised as Nan Feng, finds Xie Lian in the mortal realm.
