This Ferruginous Hawk (Buteo regalis) is the largest of North American hawks. It has a gray head, rich, rusty (ferruginous) shoulders and legs, and gleaming white underparts. This bird was perched backwards with its head turned forward on a branch with clusters of green needles and brown cones.
