Some thought the 1976 comedy The Front should have been serious, but the writer, director and some of the stars had been blacklisted themselves, including Zero Mostel, #botd in 1915, who gave a searing performance of despair as the blacklisted Hecky Brown. Still very timely.

I watched the Japanese movie Ghost Killer. Directed by Kensuke Sonomura. Starring Akari Takaishi & Masanori Mimoto. All I knew heading into this was that Akari Takaishi was the star and I could tell in the opening 30 seconds this was from the Baby Assassins team. I quite enjoyed it. #fillmsky

All work and no play makes the crew of a water-based defensive location go crazy. Sullivan, played by Lucien Laviscount, uses his free time to relax in a chair of the radio room and ponder recent events.

Large naval cannons are used to defend the water-bound naval base.

The crew attempt to work out their differences in the mess hall.

In the event of a military failure at the base, a large bomb is rigged to self-detonate and hopefully disable enemy fleets.

It won't make waves but sometimes a low budget sci-fi hits the mark. For such a limited cast and shooting location, I think this film deserves some recognition. Last Sentinel 2023. #scifi #fillmsky #taneltoom #malachismyth
