A graphite drawing that is an attempt to draw a painting described in The Expanse book Leviathan Falls, called The Education of the Third Miko. It is described as a woman sitting on a throne of skulls, making eye contact with the viewer, as a tear runs down her left cheek. My drawing is of an Asian woman, as the fictional artist is described as Asian. Her long straight black hair falls over the right side of her face down to in front of her knees, and pulled behind her hunched shoulder on the right. Her head is tilted down, with her visible eye looking up through her eyebrows at the viewer. She is thin, her arms stretched out to either side, her hands resting on the arms of the skull throne. She wears a long dress with tight sleeves and a high neck, so only the skin of her hands and face can be seen. The dress flows over her legs and down over the bones at her feet, like a waterfall. The throne is made of skulls and leg bones. The skulls form the arms and seat of the throne, with shoulder bones (scapula) at the base. On either side, two columns of skulls and vertebrae rise up higher than her head, topped with arm bones and scapula, and behind her is an unfinished arch containing a pyramid of skulls receding into darkness. Loosely drawn skulls and leg bones are scattered under the hem of her dress. The background gets darker towards the top, where I have smudged the graphite. I was trying to express the encroaching darkness. I really enjoy The Expanse, both the books and the show, and I was curious if anyone had tried to create the image described. All I found was two AI pics on a Reddit thread, and they were terrible.

I decided to leave it as a graphite drawing. If I reproduce it, I’ll scan & copy it. I’m quite pleased; this is out of my wheelhouse! 😊💜💜💜
