Six large sunflower heads cut off of the stems sitting atop an old wooden butcher block table. They are past their prime bloom but their bright oranges, yellows and brownish greens are drying to the most beautiful muted autumn colors. They are holding their forms, the leaves and petals just take on a more turned and curled look. We dry them out to feed to the birds as winter treats.
Drying sunflower heads; although beautiful when fresh I believe the muted colors as they fade away are their crowning glory. We dry them to feed to the birds in wintertime.
