Totally agree with you @carbonbrief.org - this article by
@priyabharadia.bsky.social is an essential read.

I've written my own comment piece, based around the article & Lincolnshire's flooding problem, which is a theme of my upcoming novel #FloodWatersDown

Indie publisher Cliftop Publishing will release the near-future eco-thriller Flood Waters Down by Sleaford-based journalist Clive A Simpson on 9 April 2026.

Set in the drowned fenlands of South Lincolnshire, the novel portrays a Britain reshaped by rising seas, systemic breakdown and the gradual expansion of AI governance.

Combining ecological realism with a distinctly Ballardian atmosphere, it adds a regional British perspective to the expanding climate fiction market.

Simpson, an international journalist specialising in space, climate and environmental reporting, drew inspiration from the 2013 east coast storm surge, which brought parts of Lincolnshire close to catastrophic flooding.

“At its heart, this is a story about how people respond when government and the systems built to protect them begin to fail,” he says.

Evocative, prophetic and fiercely human, Flood Waters Down is a powerful exploration of survival, resistance and moral reckoning in a world undone by climate collapse.

Took a proof copy of my new novel #FloodWatersDown for an outing to the London Book Fair yesterday. A great day and lots of good conversations. It's due out on 9 April.

Even at sea level, it felt like I was immersed in low cloud on this afternoon's short wander across the fen - eerie, silent and the air moisture-laden.

The feature 'Drowning in Denial' - looking at climate change driven flood damage in council areas led by Reform UK - is also excellent and timely. It dovetails nicely with my upcoming novel #FloodWatersDown about survival, resistance and moral reckoning in a world undone by climate collapse.

Haunting, prophetic and fiercely human.

A powerful exploration of survival, resistance and moral reckoning in a world undone by climate collapse.

And threatened by the very intelligence it created to save itself.

Publishing APRIL 2026.

My upcoming novel #FloodWatersDown (Spring 2026) is an interesting take on many of these issues.

When climate fiction feels real Topical comment and travel writing

"And maybe that’s what climate fiction, at its best, can offer. Not just warnings but alternatives. Not just despair but a glimpse of the radical imagination we’ll need to survive – and adapt."

The issue with these climate change stories is 2C doesn’t sound much & 2050 feels a generation away - so people don’t get urgency.

But our upcoming speculative fiction novels #TheSentientOnes & #FloodWatersDown show what could happen.

Fiction can play a role in understanding the #climatecrisis

Fighting for the Fens Topical comment and travel writing

As ageing infrastructure meets rising seas & volatile weather, a vast area of low-lying land in Eastern England faces its gravest threat since it was drained in the 17th century.

Are the Fens worth fighting for?

Mind-boggling denial of reality by Badenoch as she announces a screeching u-turn on Tory climate policy.

A mediocre leader who is totally out of touch with the rapidly growing renewables business and the future of humanity!

What is climate change? A really simple guide Human activities are causing the world to heat up, posing serious threats to people and nature.

Natural causes can't explain rapid warming over the last century.
Extreme heatwaves, heavy rainfall.
Melting sea ice =sea-level rise.
Warmer oceans, more intense storms, harming sea life.
