#FoundThatLizard ?
That tail really stands out. The rest of the lizard is so well hidden that I can't see it.

Like most other organisms, lizards create the blue color through structural coloration. They have crystals in specialized skin cells called iridophores that reflect blue light.

Easier today, the color didn’t blend as much. Maybe that’s why he has to rely on the tail breaking lol

I love these lizards. 🦎
And here’s another one. (sadly, the tree is now gone - died from a fungus)

It is unclear how much control these lizards have over where their tails are dropped. Some lizards may be more likely to drop their tails faster than others. If you ever see these lizards in the wild and try to catch them, make sure to be careful of their tails!

A tricolor terrier is standing on the sidewalk looking puzzled. He is ignoring the lizard at his feet.

Scientists aren’t exactly sure why they do this, but it is definitely an interesting phenomenon to observe.
