I am going to revise the hashtag for my #FourLakeSeas project to #4LakeSeas because this is not Facebook and need to be space conscious. Now going to add that hashtag to previous posts for ease of quick referencing for future me and maybe others who are interested. ๐
Just finished my #FourLakeSeas #NativeGarden Species Spreadsheet List!
242 species!
I have the Hardiness Zone, Interest, Perennial / Annual, light, soil, moisture, juglone tolerance, bloom season, human use, wildlife use, pruning, and propagation
Now looking for experts on #Indigenous Plant Names
"Trifolium virginicum, the Kate's Mountain clover, is a species of flowering plant in the family Fabaceae. It is native to West Virginia and Virginia in the United States, growing mainly on the Piedmont mafic barren, with Kate's Mountain as the type locality. Trifolium virginicum is a symbol of the West Virginia Native Plant Society. T. virginicum can also be found in Maryland and Pennsylvania, where it is considered imperiled or critically imperiled, respectively, by NatureServe." | Wikipedia - Trifolium virginicum
"Trifolium reflexum, the buffalo clover, is a species of clover native to the Eastern United States. It is found in areas of natural openings including woodlands, glades, and prairies, often in acidic areas. It is an annual or biennial that produces white to dark pink flowers in the late spring. Early in the European colonization of the Americas, clover species, likely including T. reflexum as well as related species such as T. stoloniferum, were recorded as forming a major component of the plant life in meadows and open woodlands, often in association with river cane, nettles, and other legumes. Like many native clovers of the Eastern United States, Trifolium reflexum's populations have declined considerably in the past 200 years. For this species, fire suppression is indicated as a significant cause for decline. Controlled burns have been found to stimulate seed germination in T. reflexum." | Wikipedia - Trifolium reflexum
While adding nitrogen fixers to the #FourLakeSeas #ClimateAdaptation #NativeGardening project spreadsheet, I only found 3 clovers that are native to East #NorthAmerica and all are At Risk - Trifolium virginicum (Vulnerable), Trifolium reflexum (Vulnerable), and Trifolium kentuckiense (Endangered).
#FourLakeSeas #ClimateAdaptation #NativeGardening #WildlifeConservation I figure this Project needs a hashtag now as I am probably going to be talking about it a fair bit here and would like the discussion to expand to others working in #conservation #Rewilding #forestry #gardening #climate
