Looking straight down through the bubble cockpit of a helicopter onto Franz Josef glacier in New Zealand's south island. It is clearly a river of ice, and the cracks, extrusions and ridges formed by different forces are clearly visible in the slanting light. The sides of its U-shaped valley can also be seen.
