#EO9066 stripped #FredKorematsu of his rights as a US citizen w/o #dueprocess. It took significant bravery for him to refuse the order, esp when his family complied & many in the Jpnse community thought he’d make things harder for them. If he complied, he would be sent to an internment camp;
It's Fred Korematsu Day. Had to edit the video to 3 minutes. Full video on my youtube #FredKorematsu #FredKorematsuDay
Today we celebrate Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties and the Constitution. #FredKorematsu was a #JapaneseAmerican civil rights activist who resisted the internment of Japanese Americans during #WWII and was detained by the U.S. government because of his Japanese roots.

Fred Korematsu, was born in Oakland, California, to a Japanese-American family. When World War II broke out Japanese-American citizens were subject to curfews and, following an executive order from Pres. Roosevelt, were sent to internment camps.

He never stopped believing in a Constitution that refused to believe in him.
Forty years later, the courts finally did.

On #ThisDayInHistory in 1942, #FredKorematsu was arrested. He had resisted FDR's #ExecutiveOrder9066, which sent Japanese-Americans to #ConcentrationCamps. #ACLU backed him in a trial that upheld the legality of these racist camps. SCOTUS finally criticized the precedent in 2018.
Say his name. Remember the injustice.

A photograph of a planner page with pens and an eraser laying on top. The page features a greyscale bust caricature of Fred Korematsu, an elderly Japanese-American man, on a blue background. He is balding, with large glasses, wears a suit and tie, and is carrying a pipe in his right hand. Text to the left reads “Celebrating Fred T. Korematsu Day for Civil Liberties and the Constitution.”
So today's prompt was "super sloth"...but I saw on Wikipedia that today is Fred Korematsu Day and decided that a commemorative sketch was way better. So happy Fred Korematsu Day for Civil Liberties and the Constitution, may his legacy live on.

(1/2) When #FDR issued #EO9066, #FredKorematsu, a native-born US citizen, refused. On #ThisDayInHistory in 1942, he was arrested, convicted, and sent to a #ConcentrationCamp in Utah. He appealed and #SCOTUS ruled that denial of #CivilLiberties on the basis of race was legal.
