Far better to invest in alternatives (for example, I wouldn’t have driven to work today if there had been safe #ActiveTravel infra) and, as others have said, give tax relief on logistics and public transport firms #FuelDuty

The thing is that driving personal cars costs the taxpayer a huge amount in terms of air quality and inactivity, and this is essentially a regressive bung for wealthy SUV drivers on a country where 1:4 households don’t have a car #FuelDuty

I hope Rachel Reeves recognizes that #EV drivers already effectively pay a #fuelduty of around 0.5p/mile in #VAT on electricity to charge at home (double if fast charger used). Maybe my
#Free100 idea would be better than a per mile charge that will slow adoption!

Already depressed by the certainty that #FuelDuty will be frozen yet again.

As #FuelDuty is essentially a tax bung to the rich that would seem an easy place to start.

UK tax rises. I'm not seeing any references in the news to the temporary 5p reduction in fuel duty from 2022 being lifted. Surely this should be reapplied to help balance the books?

Scott Arthur Labour, Edinburgh South West To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, what the estimated cost of maintaining the freeze on fuel duty is in (a) 2024-2025 and (b) the five-year Parliamentary term. The OBR estimated in its March 2025 Economic and Fiscal Outlook that if the duty rate were to remain unchanged at its current level throughout the forecast period it would reduce receipts, on average, by £3.8 billion a year between 2026/27 and 2029/30. Fuel duty was also frozen for 2024/25 by the previous government at Spring Budget 2024, at a projected cost of £3,090m in 2024/25.

A benefit *only* to motorists.
The rest of us still endure congestion, pollution & ever-increasing #PublicTransport costs.

Easy win to un-freeze.

Meanwhile, over this time public transport fares have steadily soared.

Easy win if it's *un*-frozen.

While the arse-crack trades continue to let their engines run while sitting at the kerb gazing balefully out of the window for half an hour or more at a time, I'll continue to believe #fuelduty could be raised.

Not sure how this can be seen as anything other than regressive.

Increase #FuelDuty.

Seeing the UK Govt is soon to have its spending review, it’s seems a good time to remind everyone that AIRLINES DO NOT PAY #FUELDUTY on the fuel they buy!

This is in direct contrast to farmers, hauliers, taxi drivers, bus/train operators.. and you!
