Kindle, an autumnal pegasus pony, rests by a stream and looks up at a beautiful overcast sunset. Her fiery mane is a twist of yellows and oranges, offset by the ashy grey and white of her wings, legs, and face marking. She looks alert yet calm, inquisitive and excited. In the distance a waterfall feeds the stream as it winds through orange and yellow trees, and faded green foliage. The illustration has a gestural, expressive, hand-drawn appeal that makes it look like an excerpt from a storybook from the land of Equestria.

It feels so good to catch up on commissions that have been waiting in the wings!
It might not be seasonal for us on the Northern Hemisphere, but this autumnal piece for Cinder was an absolute delight ^^

This pin set was so much fun to design! As you can see, part of the work is doing a clean trace of the original work, as well as figuring out how to show the shading for 2d jpegs into cells for an enamel pin. I think my personal favorite was the scarab ring, but I'm biased because I love that item (and use it all the time in the battledome for dailies).

After doing an initial trace of the original source art and realizing it was a little too plain for our liking (no shade to fans of the originals!) I was allowed to draw what I thought they looked like in more detail! I love the idea that the base codestones are carved into these limestone rocks with the pale yellow coloring, but for the more rare codestones they'd be carved into a crystal-like or seaglass rock.

I normally wouldn't consider myself a product designer, but my time working on Neopets merch at Geekify gave me the chance to pick up that skill more and more!

I started alphabetically with Acara, and this was my first rough concept for a tiling pattern. I think I'd tackle it differently if I were to give this sort of prompt another shot, but I still love these old sketches--especially the acara swimming!

Both are drawn in a loose, gestural style in light brown. ) A few months into our contract with Neopets, What's Your Passion was signed on as a licensee, and unfortunately with it, I was told we couldn't do anything faerie-related anymore, except the blankets. It was really too bad! These were two concepts I had for either molded silicone or enamel keychains, where it would look like your favorite faerie was chilling on one of your keys. I started with Fyora and Illusen, and you can see a detail in there I was excited to include: the keys themselves would reflect the faerie as well! Illusen's key would have teeth that look like a lucky clover, Fyora's would have teeth that look like a crown, and on and on they would go from faerie to faerie! It's too bad this concept didn't get to spread its wings, but I'm still proud of these sketches.

Maybe someday I can draw updated art for the concept and take to GoFundMe or Kickstarter (just for a limited-run of maybe 3 or 4 designs), but for now I knew I wanted to share the art. After all, isn't it cute?

A LOT of fans requested Darkest Faerie merch, and one of the ideas that was most requested was a figure. At first I tossed around the idea of doing an original pose for her, but with how many varieties of dark faerie there are on Neopets, I knew it'd be a better idea to use some of her existing art for maximum recognizability. So which to pick? I knew I HAD to pick her statue in the Hall of Heroes--it's just so iconic! But then the trial began: doing a turnaround of such a complex pose WITH stylized fire that had to be consistent. You can see in some places where I needed to remove her wings or arms so you could see how her hair and dress would work, which was a real challenge! But I learned a lot from the process, and I'm proud of my work--it's just too bad it'll never have the chance to be made.

The front art for the 2022 Neopets Advent Calendar Box. It features the Sparkling Winter Town Background, but with a few fixes and changes here and there. The snow in the foreground was redrawn to give space for three wintery petpets: an abominable snowman, a candychan, and a powtry, playing catch, and the door was redrawn so it could be opened by a red uni pushing their way into a shop. Pictured, a christmas pteri flies overhead with a pair of shopping bags in its beak, a christmas draik sits perched on a snowy roof sipping a mug of borovan, a yellow kacheek walks with their christmas aisha friend, a christmas skeith calls to the crowd inviting them into the shop with its white jubjub friend standing at their side, and a pair of neopets friends, a christmas bori and techo, walk side-by-side. Adorably, the pair wears matching scarves that have each other's colors: white and green for the techo, red and green for the bori. The two chat amiably as they walk side-by-side.

Originally I was tossing around the idea of a scene with a santa skeith flanked by christmas elf neopets, and the snow faerie nearby tending to some petpets, but as you can tell from the final composition these ideas were scrapped! Still, the lil sketch of the draik with the nice list instructing santa skeith as he munches on a plate of cookies and milk offered by a usul is so freaking cute, I might just develop that into a full color piece for my own enjoyment.

This composition for the advent calendar was going to have differently-sized windows for the treats inside, but the idea was scrapped in order to save time. It would've featured the snow faerie holding up a snowbunny, flanked by a christmas shoyru on the left, and christmas scorchio on the right, with giant pine trees encompassing the original castle designs for the happy valley. It's too bad this concept couldn't be explored more, but I still like it!

This was one of the more loosey-goosey illustrative sketches I tossed around at the beginning, with a candychan helping the snow faerie hang a christmas wreath while a scorchio gifts a christmas kougra a wrapped present. As you might be able to tell from how I cleaned up her face a bit more, I was excited at the idea of drawing the snow faerie! (Even if that pose was a little wonky.)

In our second year, I was given more free-rein to draw an original illustration for the advent calendar!
I was super excited for the opportunity, and I love how it turned out. ^^

Text reads: "Hey Neopians! Whether you're headed for the Ice Cream Kart, visiting the Snowager, or doing quests for the Snow Faerie, ring in the holiday season in style with the Neopets Advent Calendar! Count down the days with 24 fun shapes straight from the world of Neopia!" The text is accompanied by nutritional facts for the chocolates inside, and drawn images of the chocolates beside the text. This was the back of the boxes for the advent calendars, featuring some art I drew of what the molded chocolates might look like--unfortunately as anyone who's made molded chocolates might know, they rarely turn out exactly how you wanted, especially with super fine details. It would've taken much more experienced chocolatiers, and this was originally meant to be like our yearly christmas card to fellow fans of Neopets, with the added nostalgia of old chocolate advent calendars! Unfortunately, I think most of us know that wasn't what customers expected. They were disappointed when, after lots of holiday rush delays, they opened up their advent calendars to find amateur molded chocolates, instead of these clean, pristine chocolates I had drawn. It was definitely a learning curve moment for the whole team at Geekify, and personally I think my graphic design skills were a little cluttered here.

The final composite for the 2021 Neopets Advent Calendar. This features a christmas shoyru and christmas kougra standing side-by-side looking into a shop window, while an excited blue acara wearing a striped scarf and gloves runs up the street. Further down the street a christmas ixi and peophin stand facing one another, sharing conversation. Overhead, a red-and-white striped christmas korbat flies overhead. This composite features the "Winter Wonderland Alley" background, but with some elements drawn in to fill in the scene, such as text on the shop signboard that reads "Happy Valley Slushie Shop", and extended snow in the foreground. I drew over the characters in a couple of places like adding a little mug of tea in the shoyru's hand, drawing over the eyes to have them looking at each other, and some small fixes to the acara running next to them. I'm glad we switched to a more hand-drawn model for future advent calendars after this, but for now it was nice to see these elements from the site be given so much life with just little changes! I hope this gives aspiring compositors and artists inspiration to make their own graphics using Neopets' site art, it's really easy once you get the hang of it!

This is the cleaned-up line art I traced of some christmassy items from Neopets, and you might notice some small changes here and there to the original art! For different projects, the art assets on neopets had to be traced with specific manufacturing needs in mind. In the case of making the molds for the chocolates, I needed to make sure my traces were recognizable, but smaller elements needed to be made bigger, and sharp elements needed to be a bit smoother to make it easier to mold. If you can find a good use for these linearts, more power to ya! But looking back, if I had the time I would've redrawn the items to be easier to mold in chocolate, where details wouldn't have been lost in the melting/extracting process. At the time we weren't given as much stylistic freedom to make shapes cuter (and therefore easier to mold) though, compared to some of the newer licensees that are given more artistic freedom. It's always a balance in licensing work to make something recognizable and true to the original source, but being allowed to make something new--and something that works well with the medium you're forming it into! If I can give any tips to anyone else, I strongly advise avoiding sharp angles, small circles (like the sparkle in the candychan's wings), and small lines like whiskers and hair.

A compilation of sketches with composition thumbnails for a band poster. On the right side is an assembly of on-site merch for the band, including an already pre-existing poster, the cd, the tshirt, and what the band looked like in the original flash animation. The top left sketch explored doing a more abstract composition reminiscent of the original performances, while the right sketches explored a couple of options for bringing the on-site item to life in full scale. The bottom left composition was what we eventually decided on, and it features the kacheeks but with the compositional framework of a real Blue Man Group poster, pictured on the right with other reference images.

This one's interesting caue you can see a bit of a peek behind the curtain of how simple some of these composition sketches might've been. Sometimes you don't need to add a ton of detail, just enough for folks to understand the point you're trying to have come across.

The kacheeks have blank expressions and are underlit, giving them a slightly ominous look, despite the silly, colorful display. ) One of the first big projects I proposed at Geekify was doing a set of band posters for each of the performing acts at the Tyrannian Concert Hall, and I was so excited about it. This was for the group "Blue Kacheek Group", a fun spinoff of Blue Man Group. I wanted their band poster to evoke the same feel as the classic BMG posters, and while I definitely would've done some of this shading differently now, I'm still happy with how this one turned out.

I'm still really proud of this one, as cute and simple as it was.

It always bugged me how the musicians in the Neopian Philharmonic were drawn holding or playing their instruments incorrectly, and I get it, it's tough to draw anthro characters playing instruments! But I'm happy I was able to satisfy one of my biggest childhood gripes by drawing them with the right technique.

Twisted Roses perfectly captured that Hot Topic Punk Metal Girlie vibe of the 2000's energy, and I'm glad I could make a poster that taps into that. Like cmon, what teenage emo/scene kid wouldn't have wanted a poster like this one taped up in their room? I know I certainly would've, and I can think of at least five of my highschool friends who would've too. I think that was part of why working on neopets merch was such a dream come true for me, I got to think about good memories of freaking out with friends over cool fandom stuff as a teenager, and as an adult I was able to design a lot of merch I would've wanted.

Even though I'm mourning the end of Neopets' contract with us over at Geekify, I'm still proud of the illustrations and designs I drew over the years.

Rhiotte, a tyrannian lupe modeled after Balthazar and wearing a battle faerie tunic, releases a sparkling light faerie from a bottle. She looks at it in a mix of wonder and adoration, happy to see it free. The released faerie looks back at her after swirling around her head, in a gentle arc.

It's been way too long since I worked on a Neopets commission, so thank you @collageclub.bsky.social for the excuse to draw an adorable tyrannian lupe gal!

A sketch page showing some snippets of Bonny's family and early life as a lil fluffball of a xwee! I wanted her to look like the middle ground between a xweetok and yurble, so she ended up looking like a cross between a mink and a hedgehog--which is honestly adorable! In the top left corner I sketched a quick doodle of her mom, Nejla Xendrik (yes, of the Xendrik family, the nobility of Sakhmet!) She's an art dealer in the Lost Desert, whereas Bonny's dad, Yaniq Avaan, is a goalkeeper for Mystery Island's yooyuball team. Bonny's full name is actually Borandukht Avaan-Xendrik, and she was "born" 2006. She was raised on Mystery Island, and her dad tried to get her into Yooyuball but she never really picked it up. She loved making friends with members of the team though, and has fond memories of players like Bertie Shurtz. Her khnum, "Kuja", has been with her since she was born, and he's very protective of her.

this was a screenie from back in the day, where it started raining mortogs! I sketched one falling on Five (the strawberry shoyru)'s head, while Bonny pulls back in disgust from one looking to kiss her.

This was one of the first color sketches I made of my ixi Kaliamiki (also known as Liam). They wear the pirate ixi jacket in deep blue, with a starched white cravat and several key items hanging from their belt: an ice sword, a compass, and a bottle of wraiths breath. They wear a bright red layered folk skirt that matches their left (our right) eye, since I draw her with heterochromia. Their red eye reflects their pirate coloring, whereas the blue reflects their old snow coloring--since Liam may be a sailor, but they're from Terror Mountain. This is also reflected in their horns, which look like the midpoint between the christmas colour ixi's horns, and the default horns.

this is a hand-drawn digital sketch I drew of my yellow cybunny, Roulad. He's a basic yellow, but I like drawing him as if he's a basic yellow faerie cybunny. He has long eyelashes and blue eyelids, a pink nose, pink cheek spots, yellow eyebrows, and two yellow spots on his forehead. His dewlap is yellow with pink spots, and the underside of his paws are all yellow. His wings are white with an ombre inner design that transfers from blue to yellow, making him the very picture of springtime.

These are the sketches I made for the "geeky gals", with different emphases on different areas to be geeky in: books, movies, STEM, and board games.

(as you can tell, I didn't get around to designing the masculine models quite as much...) These are some bases I sketched depicting a "geeky" guy with glasses, but showing different hobbies or aesthetics based on what they're holding or wearing.

A while back I was working on some mascot ideas for work, but unfortunately it didn't go any further... should I flesh 'em out and repurpose these lil buddies into adoptable designs in full color? Whatcha think?

this was originally going to be an adoptable mlp oc design, but honestly I've taken such a liking to her! This is Berry Medley, and she's a painter! She's a pink-and-cream unicorn pony with peach-colored hooves, and an american paint horse coat. She has bouncy curly hair in streaks of blueberry blue, grape purple, and raspberry red. She wears two piercings in her ears, with little berries dangling from the bottom set. Her cutie mark is a mix of berries on a blotchy purple background. There are sketches of her alongside her colored version, including one where she's drinking a smoothie, wondering "is this technically cannibalism?" with a look of worry and distaste. She then notices how odd it is that she can hold the smoothie with one hoof, then tries to wave her arm frantically to get it unstuck. Another sketch shows her strapped into a harness to do Action Painting, a style of abstract expressionist painting. She also holds a paintbrush in her mouth thoughtfully, with a hoof under her chin as she works. She is a "tripod" horse, with her right front hoof amputated at the shoulder.

This is an old colored sketch of Chamomile, my original character for an old deviantart group called Kitty Catty City. She's a snowshoe cat, who wears a big green ribbon at the base of her tail and walks on her back legs like in Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit series. She's pictured alongside her old concept art from 2012, and a picture of a real snowshoe cat.

This is a sketch compilation of one of my oldest characters, Kelile. She's a reptilian alien, with markings that make it look like she has a short glove on one claw, and a bicep-high glove on the other. She has a stout muzzle and sturdy spikes that only adorn her head and neck, and a thick and strong enough tail that she can comfortably lean back on it with her legs crossed casually. She's a brawler by trade, and in one of the sketches can be seen snacking while changing a tv channel with a bulky remote.

This was a for-fun drawing from a while back, where I wanted to try drawing a water-cat. It looks like a mix of a lion and housecat, with markings that make it look like the tip of its tail and paws are a sandy beach. A school of fish swim by, reflecting in the water on its body slightly.

It's nice to look back on these old pieces from 2023, I hope I can draw more of my ocs this year. 🤍

Styggs the eyrie looks over the bridge next to the brightvale scrollery, admiring the mallard petpets who are eating some peas she tossed into the river below. She looks down at them with relaxed contentment, and leans on one arm while the other lazily holds the bag of peas. Her wings fluff out, no doubt absorbing some of the sun on a warm, breezy day.

Sometimes after a long day of training in the castle, it's nice to get out for a walk and feed some peas to the local mallards. 🦆🦆🦆

The classic Neopets character Jhuidah has been redrawn in a rough sketch to have a few notable changes. Her neck rings have been replaced with two gold bands around her neck, as well as two bangles on her wrist. Her coconut bra has been redesigned into a green halter-neck tube top in the popular Y2K fashion, with a wooden ring in the center. Her grass skirt has been replaced with a cloth skirt reminiscent of the traditional hawaiian style, but with influences from other Neopian faeries. The folded portion of her underskirt that drapes over the outer skirt in front is pleated to look like a seashell, drawing a parallel to her island home. She also has a new tattoo/marking to make her look more like the mystery island colour on neopets.com, which represents her connection to her magic cooking pot. Wrapping around her bicep, five geometric sprays seem to emerge from a pot, with two dots flanking the middlemost spray, representing the 6 elements of Neopian magic. A straight line wraps around underneath, representing the island, and a zig-zag line wraps under that, representing the ocean.

Sometimes when inspiration strikes, you gotta take a crack at updating your favorite faerie's design. Why not?

Luxinia the light faerie kneels next to the grey Faerie Baelia, holding her cheeks and smiling as she talks excitedly. Her hair is cascading around Baelia's face like a comforting canopy and her yellow wings flap proudly behind her, while Baelia comfortably lounges beside her. Her legs are tucked up beside her, as she rests on her right hip and looks up in a mix of awe and adoration at Luxinia. The two have an aura of absolute adoration for each other, like they each view the other as a one-of-a-kind treasure. They could be described as sapphic, possibly lesbian or asexual queer platonic partners, but either way they adore each other.

She just thinks she's so neat you guys <3

a hand-drawn oddish is surrounded by adorably illustrated variants created by breeding the oddish line of pokemon with other pokemon! Starting from the top and going clockwise, we have the "monstera variety", the result of breeding an ivysaur with oddish, next we have the "scout seed variety", the result of breeding the seedot line with oddish, then the "leaf dancer variety", the result of breeding oddish with chikorita! On the bottom we have the "fluff ball variety", the result of breeding oddish with cottonee or whimsicott, next is the "sun sprout variety", the result of breeding oddish with sunkern or sunflora, and finally we have the "twin bud variety", the result of breeding oddish with the cherubi line! Since these are oddishes with elements of the other pokemon, all of them have little feet, little eyes, and leaves atop their heads (which are pushed down by cotton-like fluff on the Fluff Ball Variety).

All done with my oddish variations! Which one's your favorite? (mine's the monstera variety, but I'm biased since I love ivysaur T w T )

First we have the combination of all the bird-like neopets, the Breyrinnygyre! With the ear tufts, clawed hands, and tail feathers of the vandagyre, the fluffy ears, griffon body, and lion-like tail of the eyrie, the neck ribbon and ahoge of the bruce, the eye markings, wing structure, and tail-tip of the pteri, and the forelegs and silly expression of the lenny, this adorable lil freak of nature is so excited to make friends and go flying!

then we have the ultimate combination of cat-like neopets in one noodly, cat-erpillar like form, the Wacaicheegra! It has thick ear stalks combining the acara and aisha's secondary set, while its primary ears have the pointed tips and gap of the kougra, wocky, and acara. Its collar is reminiscent of the aisha's "A" collar, but with a W instead. Its first paws are kougra paws with three toes, its second set of paws have two toes like the kacheek, and its back-most paws have the mushy hoof-like feet of the aisha, mixed with the fur tufts of the acara. It has a long, fluffy, striped tail combining the structures and elements of the kacheek, wocky, kougra, and aisha alltogether.

So I've tried combining all the bird-like Neopets and cat-like Neopets together, but what kind should I combine next?

This is a somewhat sketchy, painterly-styled hand-drawn portrait of Vira, a mutated acara from the virtual pet website, Neopets. She's giving her best sinister grin to someone, at whom she's aiming her enchanted broken mirror. Her eyes are faded deep red, a color that's reflected in her nails and dark combat boots, and she wears a gothic, billowing mini-dress with long, flowing sleeves. Her body language is languid and open, yet precisely aimed at her target.

The latest plot on Neopets has really tickled my nostalgia-bone by having Vira as a big bad. Despite being a troublemaker, she's one of my comfort characters--what can I say? I wanted to be a baby goth like her when I was a kid!

The new maraquan Flotsam design finally got me pressed enough, that I'm sketching up some redesigns I wish I could see for some of the maraquan neopets--cause trust, flotsam is soooo not the only one I'm "bleh" about.

A fully-colored illustration of Hazel, a tall, hourglass-figured pokemon trainer, wearing a designer outfit for a pokemon-inspired fashion line. The outfit is completed with a green clutch purse, white butterfly-tipped pumps, and a grey hair wrap with matching dangling strings. Hazel is a beautiful black woman with her natural 3C hair forming a loose curtain of bangs around her face, thick braids on the scalp, and her braids gradually untwisting from a thick, luxurious ponytail.

Still love this old piece from 2021! It's been forever since I've designed any garments inspired by pokemon, it's such a fun creative outlet!
