This post popped up in my FB timeline memories yesterday from my first Furious Fiction in April 2020. Fitting, as I wrote and submitted my seventh April story yesterday! 😊 #writers #writing #furiousfiction #flashfiction #shortstory

Woohoo, my 7th April Furious Fiction submitted. Fingers crossed the judges like reading the story as much as I did writing it! 🀞 #writers #writing #furiousfiction #flashfiction #shortstory

Done and sent with 8 hours to spare.

My second #FuriousFiction was a fun experience.

I might be hooked.

Bedtime Stories 'Sweet dreams, Tiger.' I open my eyes and stare at the ceiling above me. Why had Mum's mantra from my childhood bedtimes entered my head?

I'm currently #writing my #shortstory for the April 2026 #FuriousFiction run by the Australian Writers' Centre. This is my seventh April story since my first Furious Fiction in April 2020. Last year's was the longlisted Bedtime Stories. πŸ“– #writers www.tallandtrue.com.au/fiction/shor...

I realised I went on random and entirely pointless 26-word tangent purely to incorporate the word 'tail'.

Finessing with fresh eyes is possibly the most interesting part of the process.

I haven't entered the #FuriousFiction #WritingCompetition for about 6 months as my head hasn't been in the right (write) space ... Hopefully the judges like my efforts πŸ€”πŸ€žπŸ’œβ€οΈ
Good luck everyone else taking part πŸ€πŸ€

Last month I participated in #FuriousFiction for the first time, after not having written anything for at least 30 years.

I enjoyed the process, so am having another crack this weekend.

But this month's effort is quite literally a continuation of that original story.

I fear that may be cheating.

Anyone else on Bluesky participating in this month's #furiousfiction? This is my first one, been a long time since I wrote short stories but the prompt is juicy!

Love the #FuriousFiction #WritingCompetition as it always has interesting prompts πŸ€”πŸ€— Need to work out if my head is in the right space to develop & create a narrative worthy of it this weekend πŸ€”πŸ˜±πŸ’œβ€οΈ

Family Reflections Mum's up first, though she doesn't like looking at her reflection nowadays. She splashes her face and turns away from me with a towel.

The brief drops this afternoon for this weekend's April 2026 #FuriousFiction writing challenge run by the Australian Writers' Centre. It'll be my 7th April challenge since 2020. My 4th in 2023 was my first showcased story! ☺️ #writers #writing #shortstory www.tallandtrue.com.au/fiction/shor...

The Lost Hour You know what it's like when you lose something. It's always in the last place you look. But how do you find a lost hour?

The brief drops on Friday for the weekend's April 2026 #FuriousFiction. This is my 7th April challenge since 2020. My 3rd in 2022 was "unofficial" because the challenge briefly shifted to quarterly. But I needed my monthly fix! ⏰ #writers #writing #flashfiction www.tallandtrue.com.au/fiction/shor...

A Song on the Radio Elliot parked close to the beach and grabbed a brown-bagged bottle of tequila. Tie a Yellow Ribbon was on the radio, and he turned it up loud.

This weekend is the April 2026 #FuriousFiction writing challenge run by the #AustralianWritersCentre. It will be my sixth April challenge since my first in 2020, when I wrote A Song on the Radio. πŸ“» #writers #writing #writingcommunity #writesky #shortstory www.tallandtrue.com.au/fiction/shor...

Alone in the Sauna Jez closed her eyes, took a deep breath, savouring the hot, dry air of the sauna in her nostrils and the sweat on her skin.

A post popped up in my FB memories on Monday morning after I'd submitted my story for the weekend's #FuriousFiction. It was a timely reminder that I hadn't shared March 2025's #shortstory. Now I have! πŸ‘‡ www.tallandtrue.com.au/fiction/shor... #writers #writing #writesky

That was the most challenging #FuriousFiction I've completed. This week has been frantically busy so I wasn't sure I'd do it. But I did complete it, so yay.

Tada! My 6th March #FuriousFiction since 2020 submitted. I can't tell you much about it until the Writers' Centre announces the (blind-judged) showcased and longlisted stories at the end of the month. Except that I loved writing my #shortstory over the weekend, as always! ❀️ #writers #writing

This weekend I challenged myself.

I haven't written anything for at least 30 years but decided to have a crack at #FuriousFiction

The story poured out Friday night.
Some editing yesterday. Some tweaking this morning. And I'm done, with 12 hours to spare.

Pretty happy with it πŸ™‚

I've written my first draft for March 2026's Furious Fiction, with 1 day, 6 hours, and 50 minutes of editing and proofreading to go before Sunday's midnight deadline. Dusting off my flash fiction mittens and writing something (probably silly) for #furiousfiction this month. I used to do it religiously a few years ago, and it's really such a fun little exercise. For the uninitiated: www.writerscentre.com.au/furious-fict...

The Lost and Found Story I only realised I'd 'lost' my August 2023 short story when I started working on a blog post to mark four years of Furious Fictions.

This post popped up while migrating my Tall And True Short Reads podcast website to a new platform. I'd forgotten how I lost and found one of my #FuriousFiction stories. And that I didn't recognise its plot and characters! πŸ€” #blogging #writing #shortstory www.tallandtrue.com.au/blog/lost-an...
