For the final day of #GCDRI: concurrent tracks on simulations with Python, and spatial analysis with QGIS. Then closing out with a workshop on project management. I'm personally psyched by the spatial analysis workshop & its many examples of countermapping. #GIS @cunygcdi.bsky.social
Day three of #GCDRI moved into application: data manipulation & text analysis in Python. Fun seeing students playing with data & text, & see how useful the foundational workshops on data literacies & command line are. So many ethical, historical, & sociotechnical questions. @cunygcdi.bsky.social
Teaching in #GCDRI today: go slow, ask why, & learn coding & software not just as tools, but cultural & historical objects situated in communities of practice. This is crucial to critically engaging with dominant tech ideologies of data universalism & technosolutionism. @cunygcdi.bsky.social #SWTech
Back in NYC from #SSWR2025, I'm teaching in #GCDRI, a coding and digital skills boot camp this week run by @cunygcdi.bsky.social. I participated in my first year as a PhD student, and taught in it last year. How nice it is to be a part of this learning community again. #DigitalHumanities #SWTech
