When I read Terry Pratchett books as a kid I got half the jokes and didn’t realise the depth of the history, philosophy and politics in them.
I still come across things in “serious” books which I’d thought were just Pterry’s jokes.

One of my very favorite things is more people reading Terry Pratchett. Yes, he really was that good. Yes, it really is very funny. Yes, it really will change the way you think about the world. I'm a better person because my dad handed me Pratchett (Equal Rites) when I was a kid.

I read out the book to my then partner, in installments, so we could cherish reading this book together. It took us about a year... and it still feels like the tremendous loss that it is.
And at the same time an absolute joy to read.
