I was at #GatherFiberSymposium event yesterday, and we yearned to be at the protest. But hanging with artists was really good for my soul. Artists are taking no shit.

Title: The Golden Thread Subhead: How Fabric Changed History Author: Kassia St. Clair The cover looks like a piece of linen with sections of sampler things and a trim of bobbin lace around the outside edge.

Book open to the chapter titled The Lacemaker. A small line drawing of a woman (like Elizabeth I) with a huge ruff collar. The pull quote at the top says: "Greek, Sir, is like lace. Everyman gest as much of it as he can." Samuel Johnson, James Boswell's The Life of Samuel Johnson, 1791 The chapter starts with a description of Vermeer's The Lacemaker painting.

Current reading, part of #GatherFiberSymposium events (for next April) is a book talk at Attleboro Arts Museum.

I don't know if I'll get to the discussion, but I wanted to see the book anyway. Glad I did!
