A lovely painting! 😍 It made me think about the lovely scene in The Quiet Gentleman when Gervase and Drusilla play chess (yes, I know he won that game but there must have been other times with her winning). #GeorgetteHeyer

I often #read #books in class - while #teaching was underway - and mostly got away with it! 🤭

Tho one time, an #American nun at my #conventschool saw the #GeorgetteHeyer #novel I was reading and confiscated it because it contained #regency era #characters playing cards in gambling dens 😄

I always turn to #Georgetteheyer when I'm low. A real pickmeup. Resting my eyes after an operation, I was delighted to find most are available in audio on youtube with some fine narrators (if you can tolerate the frequent ads.) Bath Tangle is a sad omission. A favourite.

There’s a quiet confidence that comes from a well-read mind. You may not know everything, but you’ve traveled through centuries, worlds, and ideas—and that’s a wisdom all its own.

Mr Amberley has asked Shirley to marry him, BEFORE THE DENOUEMENT!

This is against all the rules of murder mysteries.

Not particularly proud, but neither have I. You never know, they might be fun. I’ve never read anything by #BarbaraCartland either. I avoided #GeorgetteHeyer thinking she wrote bodice rippers until I heard one of her novels read on BBC. It was very funny with a happy ending Hooked after that.
