People often gloss over that the #GloriousRevolution of 1689 began with, in essence, a #CoupDÉtat and invasion of #Dutch forces under the future #KingWilliam. On #ThisDayInHistory in 1688 they defeated the #Jacobites in the #BattleOfReading, forcing #JamesII to flee to France.
The English #BillOfRights gained royal ascent on #ThisDayInHistory in 1689. A key part of the #GloriousRevolution, a coup in which the #Stuart monarchy was toppled, it built on #JohnLocke's ideas and enshrined the #SupremacyOfParliament, making Britain a #ConstitutionalMonarchy.
