Through all her years as a captain, Utahime had seen quite the share of unbelievable things at sea, but living merfolk was surely a new one. In fact, she wouldn’t have fully believed it without seeing, but there it was, right in front of her: an ethereally beautiful merman, with a deep blue tail, accents and eyes all to match. Gorgeous, curious, alluring and also deeply suspicious-- after all, the two who reported his arrival, to call it something, had put quite the emphasis on how he hadn’t offered the slightest shard of resistance upon being brought to deck. And she doubted a being from straight up legend would want to simply pay them a visit; no, he must be up to something, and Utahime was actually itching to know what it was. “Hi.” She greeted him, as her eyes ran him up and down as if some intel could be gathered that way. “Who are you and what do you want?” “Oh, such a terrible sense of hospitality.” He replied, and she let out a brief scoff.
“Well, guests usually announce themselves before arriving.” Was her reply, shrugging. “Otherwise, they’re surprises at best and threats at worst.” After all, most of the unforeseen circumstances the ship and its crew tended to have to deal with were problems such as storms or attacks. “I see.” The merman simply said, with an expression which didn’t exactly put her at ease; not yet, at least. “I’m Satoru, by the way.” “Satoru.” She repeated, as if to memorize the way. “I’m Utahime.” “Utahime!!!” Satoru repeated as well, him with a somewhat musical tone. One that didn’t sound bad, by the way. But that might as well be another reason to be wary, for merfolk were said to mainly possess amazing singing voices, and those were usually put to use in the task of luring sailors to their deaths… sure, it might be just a tale, but one was never too cautious. Utahime hadn’t made a name for herself and the crew’s trust by being reckless, that for sure. “Beautiful name for a beautiful lady.” It could be sarcasm, given the scar crossing her face, but didn’t seem like it-- especially with what came after. “And a beautiful voice on top of that.” “My, thanks.” Utahime conceded, smiling politely but still making a point not to lower her guard. “I heard you sing, y’know?” Just in case she wasn’t curious already, those words only increased it. “That’s why I’m here; I wanted to meet the human who sings even better than the average merfolk.” Oh.
