Einen Tag nach dem Ermächtigungsgesetz bestellt Reichspropagandaminister Joseph Goebbels die Intendanten der Reichsrundfunkgesellschaft ein und kündigt eine "Säuberung" des Rundfunks an. Faktisch bedeutet dies die Gleichschaltung des Rundfunkt. Nur noch NS-Ideen und Positionen dürfen gesendet werden, abweichende nur zur Hervorhebung der eigenen. Jüdische, sozialdemokratische und kommunistische Mitarbeiter werden entlassen. Drei Monate später werden alle Intendanten bis auf einen (er ist inzwischen der NSDAP beigetreten) ebenfalls entlassen. Nur noch Mitglieder der Reichsrundfunkkammer dürfen beim Rundfunk arbeiten. Es folgt eine strukturelle Reorganisation und Zentralisation. Regionale Rundfunkgesellschaften werden aufgelöst und Rundfunk der Verfügungsgewalt des Regimes unterworfen.
