“Of course,” Justin said automatically. It wasn’t true. He had no idea what his brother Charlie might have been saying, nor how long he might have been saying it.
“I see. And the kiss, how was that?” Justin struggled to describe the feel of her mouth under his, her hands curled in the linen of his shirt to pull him closer. It had been both lush and transcendent, but how to describe it in a way that Charlie would understand? Apparently he didn’t have to because his brother smirked and said, “Say no more. If I were a betting man I’d put a good bit of money on the two of you being married before a year has passed.” “As I recall you race horses and play cards for a living, Charlie. You are the very definition of a betting man.” “True enough, now if I can only find someone stupid enough to bet against me.” Justin snorted. It was nice to have Charlie believe it, but Justin had much stronger reservations himself.

But if I had to choose one thing that makes the series one of my all time favorites, it's the depth and complexity of the relationships. Beyond the main couples, the Haberdashers themselves are ride or die. Love and friendship between siblings, friends, and more is woven so deeply throughout the stories that I want to roll around in the interactions like a puppy in clover. (Is that a thing?) In this latest book, our protagonists are wonderfully well-matched. Desdemona has such a strong sense of self, and Philip's integrity shines through even with the grievous mistakes of his past.
