Isaiah 66:24 speaks of those rebelling against God by continuing IGM — as both mutilating and mutilated — as dead because they don't live self-determined lives. The undying worm and the unquenched fire describe the state they perpetuate. #Haftarah #StopIGM 3/3

Sharing again for anyone who needs it: a new poem to use in place of, or accompanying, the #haftarah reading for #YomKippur morning from Isaiah demanding to know if this is the fast God desires. (Spoiler: it is not. God wants us to be ethical, dammit.)

My people went down to Egypt first; then the Assyrian oppressed them. ‘Now, what do I have here,’ says God. ‘My name is blasphemed without cease. Yet My people shall know My name - I am speaking: Here I am.’ (Isiah 52:4-6) #Haftarah 1/2

“I will make your pinnacles of crystal and your gates of ruby, and all your boundaries of precious stones. And all your children shall be taught by the Eternal, and great shall be the peace of your children.

The ox knows its owner – for it was them who made it an ox. The donkey knows the manger of its master – that could be taken from it anytime. Both are not free.
But Israel knows nothing, my people do not understand – that they are loved and meant to be free. (Isiah 1:3) #Haftarah #StopIGM

Not having taken a donkey, means not having performed male intersex genital mutilation, which is the main theme of Numbers 16.
The #haftarah shows 1. Samuel 12:3 with a similar expression, extended to not having taken an ox either, which is the metaphor for IGM-female.

#Haftarah

The house of Jacob, Israel, embodies the intersex ideal (Isaiah 27.6+29.23), whereas when it is murdered (27.7) or there is spoken of lies (27.15+17), the surgical sex assignment is meant.
