In Minnesota these are called aesthetic mandates. And in addition to making strange looking buildings, they also add unnecessary costs.
#HF2013 / #SF2836 is in the #MNleg this session to help address rules like these that block homes and make them more expensive. #YesToHomes
MN State Housing Committee has adjourned with BOTH #HF2013 and #HF1987 passing the Housing committee on the way to the State and Local Government committee!
Thanks to Rep. @mikehowardmn.bsky.social , Rep. Spencer Igo, and Rep. Jim Nash for their support of the #YesToHomes agenda.
#HF2013 allows for individuals to choose what kinds of aesthetics they want for their home rather than the city deciding to have a singular allowed look or style.
Jill Hutmacher - testifying for Cities (from Eagan) - cities continue to be concerned about local control.
Foster - "Ultimate local control, homeowners on their own lots." speaking on #HF2013
#HF2013 Rep. Igo - removes prescriptive requirements which increase home prices by $1000 and prices 4000 people out of the home.
Rep. Igo asking Rep. Nash to bring #HF2013, as amended, in negotiation with League of Minnesota Cities (LMC). Bill dials down aesthetic mandates which require excessive requirements.
Rep. Igo "Every parent wants their kids to live in or around where they live. My kids cannot live in Waconia."
Up next at 3pm is the MN House - Housing Committee at which we will be covering #HF2013, related to aesthetic mandates, and #HF1987, the Starter Home Act (Companion to #SF2229) #YesToHomes #MNleg
