On Friday, September 26, 2025, my HO SSW GP40 7602 assisted SP PA-2 6044 leading a passenger train at the Tri-City Society of Model Engineers model railroad in the historic Niles depot in Fremont, CA. These are both Rapido Models. The real SSW 7602 was an EMD GP40, SP Class EF430C-1. Reportedly it was built in 1966, serial number 31485. It was upgraded in 1982 becoming 7961, SP Class EF430CR-1. It became UP 1458.

Ohio & Little Kanawha (O&LK), 0-8-0 3405. This is an HO model. There is a real shortline of that name but this O&LK was a Freelanced C&O railroad in West Virginia. This HO model railroad was in Sunnyvale, CA. This layout was owned by Master Model Railroader Ted Stephens. It was built for operations, and contained a lot of important layout design concepts that make it perfect for operations. I only got to operate on the O&LK once, on Thursday, October 5, 2023. It was a lot of fun. O&LK 3405 was the locomotive I ran. O&LK has since been taken down.

On Saturday, November 10, 2018, my HO model of Southern Pacific (SP) Halloween Scheme GP9 5665 was in Klamath Junction on the California Central Model Railroad Club (CCMRC) in the historic Agnew depot in Santa Clara, CA. This is a stock Athearn Genesis model. The real SP 5665 was an EMD GP9, SP Class DF-607. Reportedly: It was built in 1956, serial 21358. In the 1965 renumbering it became SP 3498. It was rebuilt in 1972 becoming SP 3373.

This SP 4357 is an Athearn Genesis model, the GS-4 and SP 3509 are BLI models. The real 4357 was an SP MT-4, 4-8-2. Reportedly it was built in the SP's Sacramento Shops in 1927, retired in 1957 and scrapped in 1958.

I saw this superb HO model of Union Pacific (UP) 7098 at the San Francisco Bay Area’s Railroad Prototype Modelers Meet (BAPM) in Richmond, CA on Saturday, June 21, 2025. According to my notes, this model was built by Scott Bates. The real UP 7098 is a GE AC44CW. Reportedly it was built in 1997, serial number 50516.

This is a pretty basic Atlas model. The real WP 3511 was an EMD GP40, WP Class RS-68. Reportedly: it was built in 1967, builder's number 33056. It became UP 660. It was rebuilt and sold to KCS 4774, becoming KCS 2819.

It was renumbered UP 657, rebuilt by MK in 1980 becoming KCS 4771 then KCS 2881.

It's been a long time since the first time I saw a KM in Roseville. My HO scale model is held here by Dan Dahlstrom, who painted it. This was taken at Railfare, on Saturday, November 14, 2015. This brass model, of SP 9016, is by Overland Models. The real SP 9016 was a Kraus-Maffei, ML-4000, SP Class DF-801. Reportedly: it was built in 1964, builders number 19112. In 1965 it was renumbered SP 9119, SP Class KF-636-1. It was retired and scrapped in 1967.

These were later reassigned to freight service and reclassified in 1985 to SP Class EF636-13. SP 3205 was retired in 1986, sold in 1988 and scrapped.
