A vintage book for the PA-RISC 2.0 ISA, cover shows some networked PC's a small simulated city, and multimedia setup despite HP-UX being incredible bad at it due lack of software and a jet coming out of a screen implying a game? Was also sadly never thing on those, still curious how well it would be for games...
I love obscure ISA's and while I still hunt for a sane priced #SPARC machine, my HP c8000 #HPUX #PARISC #Unix workstation will keep me sane and busy, not sure how much I will get from this book but it's to much fun.
#HP_UP #PA_RISC
And as kid I would have also never dreamed that things like a 21 years old #HPUX #Unix workstation would help me stay sane and fill me with true wonder instead.

I'm getting pretty close to finishing my first video on the ubiquity of win16 APIs in 90s computing.
The main bit of research that I'm having a little trouble with is the exact pricing for the SDKs for #solaris, #aix, and #hpux from the mid 90s
Does anyone have a link, or receipts, of […]
A picture of a memory module in between a monster energy can and a banana. The memory module has about the same footprint as the can.
Finally got a memory upgrade for my #hp #b2000 #hpux machine. I'll be rocking 2 whole gigabibbles.
Is HP shipping out memory modules or dinner plates?!

A photo an an old school HP c8000 Unix workstation the design with its unique feet still looks very futuristic even today.
And here we go, a true #Unix machine with two #PA-RISC CPU's, OS is HP UX and one the last #RISC workstation #HP released, while switching to Intels ultimate lemon Itanium, should have stayed with their own silicon. This will be fun to figure out.

If you've been following my latest #unix shenanigans you might have noticed that I've talked about #solaris, #aix, and #hpux but what about #irix ?!

A screenshot of an AIX desktop. On the desktop are various CDE applications as well as two Windows 3 "Laffer Utilities" The signmaking application is showing a preview "As it turns out, AIX is also Laffer Utilities Compatible." The fortune telling application is answering the question "What can we do with this awesome power?" to which it answered "Prepare for disappointment"
Turns out that #aix is also laffer utilities compatible!
Unlike #solaris and #hpux Wabi didn't quite "just work" and I had to relink it with X11R5 libraries. The README file included with AIX did point me in that direction tho (not about Wabi, that the R5 […]

After playing with #solaris #hpux and #aix back to back the last few days I can say, confidently, that AIX is the worst of the three. I'm not quite sure yet if Solaris or HP-UX wins overall.
SAM is really nice tho...

If you were wondering if you could print from a #hpux system running a #windows3 application via Wabi via JetDirect being emulated on an Oki c542 printer.
Yes, yes you can. It all just kind of works without much fuss, except that I had to change the snmp […]

In this video you see how easy it is to install some games!

If you ever wondered if it is possible to boot a #hpux #b2000 #parisc system from an #ide drive:
No no you can't. It seems like it can for an annoyingly long time, but no, only from an IDE CDROM drive, and only only if it set to master on the bus.

Bloody hell, I've spent far too long to get to this point... 😬
Turns out that the nsswitch.conf file did not exist. How stupid of me. It was so obvious. 🙄
Now I need to work out what settings I should change back or remove that I did while trying to fix the problem....
