A super rare and quite large pair of vintage 1950s handmade sterling silver and enamel abstract modernist cufflinks by John Szymak of Dallas Texas. I've only seen a handful of cufflinks by Szymak over the years and this is the only example of this one of a kind pair that I've come across in my 45+ year career! A large and striking design that is truly wearable art for the cuff! Here's a short blurb about John Szymak taken from Marbeth Schon's " The Wearable Art Movement Part II" article on the Modern Silver magazine website... --------------- John Szymak attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Massachusetts, and the School for American Craftsmen in Rochester, New York. He maintained a workshop in Dallas, Texas. He worked in gold, silver, and pewter, with or without gems or enamels. ---------------- In addition, his work appeared in the seminal exhibition, "Designer - Craftsmen USA 1960", and was pictured in the Craft Horizons issue (July/August 1960) that covered the exhibition. His work is quite rare overall, especially his mid century modernist pieces, and his cufflinks are harder to find than hen's teeth! Each cufflnk measures 1-3/8" long by 1/2" wide, and the pair weigh 14.5 grams total. Marked at backs "Szymak" also "Sterling" on swivelbacks. Excellent vintage condition.

A rare vintage 1950s 60s handmade copper enamel modernist Stylized Figures design brooch and earrings set by Micheline de Passillé of the artistic duo (and married couple) Micheline de Passillé and Yves Sylvestre of Quebec Canada. This is a very early and likely unique set, and is possibly by her prior to their joint venture. The colors (pink and gray) are a signature color combination from the 1950s, and thus I am guessing that this set is from the late 1950s just before they started their joint business. De Passilé-Sylvestre started their business in 1960 by making one of a kind enamel artworks and jewelry in enamel on copper. (See my last photo for an image of the couple at one of their installation exhibitions in their early days.) The brooch measures 2-5/8" by 1-3/4", and the earrings measure 1-1/4" by 3/4". The brooch is marked as shown, "M. de Passillé" at back in gold hand-writing over the counter-enamel backing. The enamel of the brooch is heavy and dimensional, and in a couple of my photos there are highlights from the reflections, however there is no damage whatsoever to either the brooch or the earrings with no chips or cracks or loss to the enamel. Excellent vintage condition.

A big and bold vintage 1940s 50s handmade 900 silver moderne statement ring by designer/metalsmith Antonio Belgiorno of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Belgiorno opened his iconic design jewelry store in Buenos Aires in 1931, and he created many outstanding designs over the decades! Unfortunately, no date marks were used, so circa dating can be a bit tricky, but this ring looks very much in the late Art Deco style, sometimes called Retro Moderne, that was popular in the 1940s WWII wartime era and for a short while after the war. This ring makes a statement! Measures 1" long at top by 7/8" wide, and rises 5/8" above the finger. The band is adjustable and presently is about a size 7 US, but can be opened up or closed down to fit anywhere from about a size 5 to a size 9 in my opinion. Marked inside as shown with the Belgiorno "AB" with a crown mark with "Buenos Aires", and "A. Belgiorno" as well. Not marked for metal content, but Belgiorno was known to use 900 silver which was the silver standard for most of South America at the time, and still to this day. He also used sterling, but that was for items intended for export to the US or the UK and the Commonwealth countries, and those items would have been marked 'sterling' or '925'. Tested and guaranteed to be exactly as desired. It's not uncommon to find his jewelry without metal markings as it wasn't required in Argentina at the time for items not intended for export, which leads me to believe that this ring was purchased in Buenos Aires in the 1940s directly from Belgiorno. Excellent vintage condition.
