A photo of my drying rack with newly cleaned vintage linens and lace hanging to dry. Visible are a lappet collar (a lace collar with long front hanging ends) and a fichu (a detached collar worn with day dresses in the 1860s). The series about Queen Victoria (Jenna Coleman) has a lot of random collar things going on; they purpose-made collars. Just saying.
A photograph of a white plastic washing tub with brown water and bubbles. I was using Oxyclean Max today, because I ran out of Retro Clean, and it did okay, but not quite as well. Old things turn brown because the wheat starch used in ironing goes brown over time, and also they get dirty. Always clean your linens! Don’t wash silk! :)

Clockwise, upper left: A white cotton handkerchief from Bermuda, a pink silk handkerchief embroidered with the U.S. eagle and “Mother U.S.A” (1941-45), a red silk, embroidered in white thread with the same words and motif (1941-45), a large white silk handkerchief with a purple silk border with “Camp Forrest CA.” and a castle symbol machine embroidered in red silk, a white silk handkerchief with the British and the then Canadian flag with poles crossed, and “Canada” hand-embroidered on it in pink, white, and pale blue (probably once red; circa 1900-ish), a fraying taupe silk handkerchief with flowers and “Joy to meet you again” hand-painted on it, and two off-white silk souvenirs handkerchiefs with matching styles, one marked “Plymouth, Mass.”, the other “Miami Fla.”.

It doesn’t feel very artistic, but I have a pile of snowy white lace and linens, & I’m 1/2 done! I cleaned my great-grandmother’s fichu, & some hankies, and cocktail napkins. The water! 😱😂

Two handstitched off-white linen handkerchiefs with decorative edging. On one the edging is done in pink and brown and on the other in red and brown. They are placed on brown and white sheepskin.
I made these handkerchiefs over the past 2 days. If these do not sell over the next week, they will be appearing in my shop.
