Panel 1: Oliver, in harvester form (who goes by Lee) walks into a large room filled with other harvesters, all talking and clamoring to look at him.
Panel 2: Oliver nervously smiles at the crowd. His inner thoughts, "I haven't even had a chance yet... Why does it feel like I'm already gonna mess this up?"
Panel 3: Oliver stands before Mortis, a tall older harvester with a scythe over one shoulder. He says to the crowd, "As is tradition - in preparation for his first spar - Lee will receive a weapon. And like all harvesters, this weapon will be both a complement and a challenge."
(Note: misspelled the word "receive". Apparently I can remember the difference between complement and compliment but not how to spell "receive" lol)
Panel 1: Mortis looks on to the crowd, serious. Holding his scythe, he says "Over 100 years ago, I was given a scythe by Dove. A tool meant for farming - I had to find my own way of yielding it."
Panel 2: A close-up of Mortis's hand, outstretched, where a glimmer of light appears. He says "And with that same power -"
Panel 3: Mortis conjures the handle of a tool, forming it out of light, his fist grasping it tightly.
"I present him with his own."
Panel 1: Oliver looks on in wonder as the handle, still forming is presented before him in Mortis's fist. The crowd gathers behind Oliver with wonder and curiosity.
Mortis continues, "With the live of a harvester comes complexity. So I, Mortis, Lead Overseer, Right Hand of Dove, offer you, Lee, this."
Panel 2: Mortis's fists holds a fully formed, very plain broom.
"Simplicity" Mortis says.
Panel 3: A dumbfounded, but trying to remain neutral, Oliver looks downwards. Silent.
Panel 1: Oliver accepts the broom, grabbing the handle. The crowd murmurs; worried, sympathetic, angry. The crowd politely applauds.
Panel 2: Oliver stands with the broom, looking at it dejectedly out of the corner of his eye. The crowd continues to politely clap.
Oliver narrates, "It's been 5 days since I've died. 5 days in the afterlife. Or, as the harvesters call it, The In-Between. At first I thought it was like purgatory. Naw - this might just be hell."
