Screenshot of a Bluesky post where a hashtag has been clicked on and options appear to see the hashtagged posts in general, hashtagged posts by a user, or to mute posts with that particular hashtag.
Bluesky now has HASHTAGS! Not only can you see all posts on Bluesky with that hashtag, but also from a particular user, or you can even mute a hashtag.
User-specific hashtags can help curate (e.g. click #FoundObjectArt "by user" to see just posts on MY feed with that tag)

An illustrator who is posting art in multiple styles could make it easier for those looking for a particular style/topic by using a specific hashtag. If you're seeking b&w illus work (chpt bks, MG etc), for example, you could add something like
#bw-art to any relevant pieces you post.

4/ Hashtags are also a great way to group together conversations or content around a certain topic. This should help make it easier to have the type of watercooler publishing industry chatter we used to have on X, as @mollyoneillbooks.bsky.social pointed out.

Book cover of 'I Want to Read ALL the Books' by Debbie Ridpath Ohi, featuring a joyful young girl hugging a book with her eyes closed, surrounded by towering piles of colorful books. A small white dog with a blue collar beside her, holding a book in its mouth, looking up at the girl hopefully.
3/ This also means that it will be easier for people to promote particular projects or events. I'll be adding #IWantToReadAllTheBooks to my posts about my upcoming new picture book, just as an example. π

Screenshot of a social media platform's moderation settings page with a focus on the 'Add muted words and tags' section. The interface shows options to mute words in text and tags or in tags only, with a text box for entering words to mute. A note recommends avoiding common words to prevent muting too many posts. The user has not muted any words or tags yet.
2/ I also LOVE that we can mute certain hashtags, even temporarily. Could be useful when there's a livechat on Bluesky & you're just not interested. Do remember to unmute after the event, however!

HURRAY, Bluesky has HASHTAGS! I also love how clicking on a hashtag gives you options. If you want to see all my #FoundObjectArt posts, for example, click on that hashtag in this post & "See #FoundObjectArt posts by user".
