Late entry for last Sunday’s #WildflowerHour #HighUpPlants challenge. St Patrick’s Cabbage just coming into flower close to the summit of Binn Idir an Dá Log, at 702m the highest of Connemara’s Maum Turk mountains
A little late for #HighUpPlants, but worth posting it, I think.
Found this colourful Sphagnum moss on my way to the summit of Blà Bheinn #isleofskye last year.
Maybe S. capillifolium, S. quinquefarium or S. skyense?

Small bright green fern croziers emerging from a bed of dark brown and green moss in the joint of a limestone wall.
For #HighUpPlants the diminutive but incredibly tough little Wall Rue (Asplenium ruta-muraria), the croziers just unfurling #ferns
A fabulous #wildflowerhour tonight, it’s been wonderful seeing all your gorgeous pics and your finds for the #HighUpPlants challenge! Thank you so much for sharing them! See you again next Sunday & happy flower spotting!

I just saw that this week's challenge is #highupplants !

asking us East Angels for #HighUpPlants was a bit of wishful thinking to be fair. So I went for #OnTheEdge plants:
Photograph, creamy Rowan flower set against blue Lancashire sky

Rowan - Mountain Ash, often highest tree on hill, fell or mountain.
Nan Shepherd in The Living Mountain:
"creamy clusters held against the blue, each tiny blossom perfect & complete, … distinctive foaming pattern against the sky"

Marsh violet, a purple flower on the ground
Marsh violet at Glenshee yesterday. #HighUpPlants #WildflowerHour
wildflowerhour.bsky.social #HighUpPlants #WildFlowerHour Early Purple Orchid, 'a violet', Birds Eye Primrose and Common Primrose - all in a quarry in the Northern Yorkshire Dales this week.
Portrait: pink-red plants in the foreground, while in the valley below the River Wye snakes through the countryside. The sky above is blue.
Some #HighUpPlants at Symonds Yat Rock, for this week's #WildflowerHour

This clump of gorse was growing on very high ground in Anglesey this afternoon, but was not what I was looking for or expecting to find for the #wildflowerhour #HighUpPlants challenge!
Small white flowers of a Milkwort sp with grass in the background.
Lots of this white flowered form of Milkwort sp up on the moors at around 320m. I usually see blue or purple forms #HighUpPlants #WildflowerHour
#HighUpPlants for #WildFlowerHour in Essex wasn't easy! So, here's Heath Dogs-violet, scarce in #WildEssex instead, taken this week in vc18. @bsbibotany.bsky.social

Only wall growing plants for me this week! Stonecrop & Navelwort 😊
Horse chestnut flowers - white candles with slightly pink frills
False oxlip flowers - cross between primrose and cowslip
Bird’s-foot trefoil flowers, yellow against a green background
Yellow Welsh poppy blooming against a red brick wall
No hilly walks for me this week but perhaps the horse chestnut candles count as #HighUpPlants? Yellow seems to have returned as the favourite colour of my low down plants for #WildflowerHour, with false oxlip, bird’s-foot trefoil and Welsh poppies brightening my wanderings 🌼
I wish I could say that these Beech flowers (male and female, Beech is monoecious) were up high and would therefore qualify for #HighUpPlants, but they were conveniently just at eye level. 👀 #WildflowerHour
This is the area where I was botanising today, so many of my finds were definitely #HighUpPlants took me ages getting back to the top again!
High Cliffs North Cornwall.
Super to find #HighUpPlants of Salix herbacea (Dwarf Willow) on Friday - a first record for 50 years on this hill, and hectad #NatureNetworks #RhwydweithiauNatur #wildflowerhour

Photo of a mossy tree trunk (nearly horizontal, about 2 foot above the ground) with a hole in it, and a little plant of Wild Garlic growing in the hole. The background is a woodland scene with wild garlic plants growing and flowering.
For #HighUpPlants for this week’s #WildflowerHour, here’s a Wild Garlic plant growing in a hole in a Small Leaved Lime trunk. It’s been there a few years but doesn’t set seed - not enough phosphorus? The tree is still alive, they fall down and re-root.
If you hold a White Dead Nettle flower up high #HighUpPlants it's just a beauty inside #wildflowerhour
I stumbled across some sensational calcareous grassland at 440m asl, perfect for #Wildflowerhour #HighUpPlants.
The highlight was these lovely yellow Mountain Pansies (Viola lutea). The Yorkshire version, despite being in Cumbria!
