VOLCAT also recorded a very high #volcanic cloud vertical growth rate in #GOES17 & #Himawari8 data. At ~40 standard deviations above the mean meteorological cloud growth rate, this is among the highest rates reported by Pavolonis et al. (2018)....

The right eyewall of Super Typhoon #Hagibis grazed #Anatahan #volcano (#Marianas; at image center) on Oct 7. Fortunately, the island is uninhabited after unrest and #eruptions since the 1990s. The volcano is monitored remotely by @alaska_avo.
