Oh #Hookland- I'm so happy I could cry, we have bats in our batbox this spring, they just came out, squeaking, they're diving all around the yard.
Antique Claude glass in a beautiful gold case, round with a spring catch like a ladies' powder compact
I would like to inherit a real Claude glass and spend many fine hours with my back to every beautiful thing, writing down what I see for my #Hookland novel.
There's a Hooklanders Bluesky feed, and you can search the #Hookland hashtag as well to see others who enjoy the land and its peoples, some incorporate it in their own work. A great respite from the rest of the world.
I'm working on a crucial character for my #Hookland story, and the only other character like it I can think of is Wilson from the movie "Castaway." I'm having trouble finding other examples of objects that remain objects but have that level of emotional significance without being magical (crucial).
It's #Atheist day, I dug up an original poem I wrote in Uni a very long time ago and still like. It was nice to take a break from my #Hookland studies and remember where I came from as a writer; sometimes the weight of trying to write about a place I only know from dreams is heavy. (0 of 6)
This sublime #Hookland artwork by Tom Brown always reminds me of the eerie poem The Alder King by Brian Joseph Gillespie
A wonderfully evocative place. I visited it in the company of #Hookland
Wondrous #Hookland art from Maria
Funny how #Hookland has ever been on my horizon but I couldn't read the sign as I passed
I've been so stressed I've been missing Hookland posts, and that won't do.
So yes, sharing a bunch of Hooklands.
Sink into them. Maybe you'll find your way back. But don't worry if you don't. It will be interesting, if not transformational, one way or another. #Hookland
A scene from #Hookland history, perhaps?
Rewriting the part of my novel that has an LLM "character" so it doesn't resemble the one from Tom Cox's "Villager" at all. I knew I'd have to after I read his novel, but I've been putting it off because uggghhh it was fun to create, but not so much to remake well & believable. #Hookland blues
A purple-brown glass decanter with a funny long-necked dragon holding a purple crystal as its stopper. Inside are many roasted chestnuts glistening in an alcohol bath. Next to the decanter is a small candle made of while honeycomb wax. Behind is a Boston bean pot full of wooden spoons. It all rests on dark granite countertop with a stove next to it.
This day was disheartening, so I raise a homemade chestnut liqueur toast to my fellow #Hookland ers and wish us all a better day tomorrow.
A friend does (or used to do) just that. No names, but he lives in #Hookland
I once came across a copy of one of his works in a bookshop. I signed it.
Of all the gifts of #Hookland I have encountered, having an epiphany that I have lived my life as a happy (often Candide level) fool absolutely drowning in luck and serendipity and avoiding the painful idea that I felt unworthy of synchronicity is probably the most profound.
A friend of mine (who shall remain anonymous, but who lives in #Hookland) used to have a hobby of going into bookshops and signing books as the "author."
I once came across one of his books in a bookshop. I signed it.
Imagine what a #Hookland barcat might be like. Would it whisper interesting tidbits like which person is actually a ghost? Would it protect you from hexes or mark you as an easy target for friendly witches? Would it help you find the optimal drink for your state of mind?
A very tiny black and white kitten inside a toy helmet. (Technically a driving helmet but it looks like a Flash Gordon space helmet.)

As you read the endless nasty updates about the world, remember everyone posting here has their own personal grief as well that you can't see. So spread re-enchantment as the #Hookland ers do, heal others with your wild kindness and resistance. I failed today and lost a friend, but you may find one.
The only thing that would make this better would be grafting some haunted scion wood from #Hookland
Rupert meets the pine ogre (aka The Lord of Silence) A scowling bearded figure in a brown robe. Pine needles protrude from his skin. He clutches a spear and scowls down at Rupert. “As Lord of Silence it’s my will, to live in pinewoods dark & still”
Rupert is forced down a dark passage by several scowling imp-like figures. The dark silhouette of the Pine Ogre points imperiously With that he gives a mighty shout, “Slaves, take this bear & send him out!”
Rupert Bear troubled me. Stunning illustrations & I wanted to explore Nutwood, but it was also full of the uncanny & disturbing. Talking animals, random girl guides & many malicious sprites & spirits. Nutwood was superficially welcoming but I feel I would have been an outsider there.

A friend died this morning and I needed to be alone with my thoughts so I went for a walk through Hookland. Of course, I wasn't quite alone even though I saw no one. @hookland.bsky.social #Hookland
I think that is presented by Bob Wellings. He always got the “strange” assignments on Nationwide. I remember him doing a few from #Hookland
such as the Weychester university Ghost Census & Marsh Ape sightings…
Looks like a #Hookland landscape.

Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) was essential Friday night TV when I was growing up. Looking at it now, it’s seems profoundly #Hookland

Cover art, a black amd white depiction of an eel with a cluster of babies as seen from the banks of a small river. The title says "Kissing the Eel, by Emily Banting"
I found something wonderful today. The internet still has beautiful moments of joyful surprise. #Hookland
Oh yes, very #Hookland
A single snowdrop in a pile of last year's leaves
Everyone loves a flower and my first one of the year has arrived in time for my birthday tomorrow ❤️ I'm trying to write the seasons into my #Hookland story in such a way that anyone from England could feel them, and snowdrops definitely do the job.
