All the ingredients are there, but the outcome is just bland and a bit boring. * * * To be honest, if it wasn’t for the Italian background and locations, I would have ditched this show from the first episode. Something is just off about the whole thing. Starring Jesse Williams, Jordan Alexandra, and a very talented Italian and European cast, the show’s plot is mysterious and attractive. A handsome ex-marine goes back to Italy to work as a fixer at a fancy hotel. To be honest, this is where all the fun and interest ends. The premise, which feels something like The White Lotus meets Taken, feels like it had genuine potential to be breezy and diverting entertainment, but it falls disappointingly flat in nearly every possible way. The twists are functional, expected, and if anything, spelled out to the audience like we’re 12. The forced humor lessens the suspense, and the result is a visually appealing but low-stakes drama, designed more to accompany than to engage. Do I want a second season? Not in its current form. I'm halfway through #HotelCostiera and my mom and I are really enjoying it. We both think the cinematography is beautiful. We like the blend of mystery, action and comedy. Both of us thought it had a #TheWhiteLotus vibe except this one has a new case each episode & WL is one case for the season.

For those who enjoyed the #MallorcaFiles, Prime has a new series with a very similar vibe: #HotelCostiera. An "expat" (Jesse Williams) and his team of vaguely misfits solve crimes in a sunny European locale (Positano).
Very watchable.

#OverallThoughts: Amazon's #HotelCostiera has elements (acting, chemistry, cinematography) to it that make it a fairly serviceable binge watch. It's biggest problem, though, comes from an overall arc that doesn't feel fully fleshed out & becomes rather silly in hindsight.
