I have my nose to the ground or at least eyes toward the forest floor a good 97% of the time I'm in the forest and realized it had been awhile since I looked up. I need to break out the hammock more.

Edible and these were pretty tempting trail snacks today but I left them be. I've been keeping my eye on them for a few weeks now.

Can you spot Winston? Look for his white forepaws all stretched out as he launches amongst the ferns about 1/4 of the way from the left of this panorama of a local cedar forest.

Fishbone Beard lichen, Usnea filipendula, a lichen that's the result of a symbiotic relationship between a fungus & algae Ochrolechia pallescens, the disk with light green exterior and a tan circular cap lichen holding tight to the bark. Freckled Tube Lichen, Hypogymnia krogiae, massive fruiting body structures, Apothecia, are associated with the leafy speckled lichen seen elsewhere along the twig.

#HotStick or maybe #HotTwig is more apt.

I spy at least 3 species of #Lichen including the massive fruiting bodies or #Apothecia of the leafy lichen, that looks like a Freckled Tube Lichen, Hypogymnia krogiae. #LikenLichen

An inverted blue ceramic pots sits on black landscape fabric. Gathered on the pottery base is a collection of horse chestnut sticks completely coated with lichens with a few moss tufts. Most of the lichens are dense shrubby looking foliose lichens in shades of white, grey, pale minty green, and olive. They are very beautiful and would make excellent decorations for a Christmas fireplace mantle or a Hallowe'en haunted house.

A #hotstick epiphyte festival! A new stronger atmospheric river is rolling over Vancouver Island tonight, but the windstorm that followed the one on the weekend brought these branches down from the horse chestnut trees at work. Lots of Evernia, Ramalina, Usnea etc. Pleasing!

Rain interrupted gowf today. After the line of thunderstorms moved through, we went for walkies through a park near our home.
we came across these pretty bright yellow flowers (Coreopsis verticillata, aka tickseed) and some #mushrooms growing on a #hotstick (early turkey tail?)
