When I was 17, after burning a triangle of skin on my forearm with an iron during my first attempt at ironing, my grandmother told me that she never ironed. To my great surprise, I had never noticed anything; my grandmother was always elegant. So, I said to myself, there is no way I’m going to iron! The secret? After washing, shake the wet clothes to remove creases and then carefully place on hangers and leave them to dry as they are. They must be spaced so that they do not touch each other. A dehumidifier must be placed in the room to prevent humidity problems.It doesn't work with everything: wool must be dried flat and doesn't need to be ironed anyway. Shirts in particular are not immaculate. But, hey, it's okay! Another advantage is that clothes are less damaged than with a dryer. What's more, it's more environmentally friendly! My other grandmother, on my father's side, ironed everything, even underwear and socks! She thought it killed diseases. Since she was Spanish, I nicknamed her plancha todo. She spent long hours ironing, but she didn't want anyone to help her. What would she do if she didn't have to do the housework?
