Wild turkey nuggets, roasted carrots and sweet corn that I froze in the summer. #SundayDinner #HuntToEat
A bowl of venison barbacoa.
A dinner plate with a burrito on top. It is topped with queso blanco fresh tomatoes and lettuce and sour cream. On the bottom is yellow rice.
I made a big ol' batch of barbacoa from some venison steaks. Now we are enjoying burritos for dinner.
A shout out to @dcoutdoors.bsky.social for turning me on to Hank Shaw's barbacoa recipe.

Wild turkey chili has been in the crockpot most of the day. #hunttoeat #hunting
Ingredients gathered on the counter to make chili. Two different cans of diced tomatoes that I got on clearance, a can of tomato sauce, a can of store brand red beans and a can of store brand black beans, some ground wild turkey meat, a package of frozen diced bell pepper, and an onion. I just need to pull the garlic and other seasonings out of the cupboard yet.
Making wild turkey chili with a true hodgepodge of cans of this and that I had sitting on the shelf. ππ

A pan of unbaked meatballs ready to go in the oven.
I feel like I JUST made a batch of venison meatballs to put in the freezer. Apparently that was back in November and apparently we ate them all. So here I am again. #hunttoeat
Venison meatloaf heading to the oven. #hunttoeat #hunting
A ziplock bag with the meat from two wild rabbits. I freeze the meat and at the end of the hunting season, I'll thaw then grind the meat. Usually I mix in some bacon fat. Then I'll repack in one pound packages or make burger patties and refreeze to use all summer.
Worked on deboning the 2 cottontail rabbits from Monday. Every so often someone asks how much meat I get. Usually 0.7-0.9 lbs per rabbit. I lost about 1/2 of one rear quarter on one of the rabbits I did today. #HuntToEat #Hunting
Burgers over the flickering flame of a propane grill.
A dinner plate with venison cheeseburger, macaroni and cheese and baked beans.
I had a package of ground venison thawed out and kept waffling back and forth between tacos and cheeseburgers. Cheeseburgers won even though it's currently 18Β°F outside. Clear skies and calm wind so not too bad manning the grill. π #HuntToEat
A yearling whitetail buck has been harvested to provide food for my husband and myself. There are many blessings to be able to hunt and acquire meat directly off our farm.
Deercation day 3. Afternoon report.
So very thankful and blessed. I could get up to 3 deer but my husband and I only need one to get us through the year. So I am done deer hunting for the season. #hunting #HuntToEat
Cut up pieces of venison steak in a square ceramic dish.
My crockpot containing venison vegetable soup.
A couple days ago, I seared a couple venison steaks on the grill then slow-cooked them in the crockpot then cut up into bite sized pieces.
Today, homemade venison vegetable soup for dinner.

A dinner plate with all the items mentioned in the post.
Venison meatball sub, roasted carrot "fries" (I NEVER make enough.) And a Yuengling black and tan. π #hunttoeat
A sheet pan of meatballs, uncooked, ready to go into the oven.
Venison meatballs into the oven. It's been awhile. I rarely make these in the summertime.

Grilled venison on a salad with a glass of Riesling.
Next to the last package of venison backstrap grilled and on a salad tonight. #hunttoeat
A pan of wild turkey schnitzel pieces.
A dinner plate top to bottom: wild turkey schnitzel with honey mustard dressing, corn on the cob and tomato slices.
Me sitting in the grass with a wild turkey I shot. I used 1 of the turkey breasts to make tonight's dinner.
Wild turkey schnitzel success! I served it with some honey mustard dressing. Sweet corn that was bought yesterday at the local farmers market. Tomato slices. #hunttoeat
A bunch of thin wild turkey breast cutlets lying on a green cutting mat.
Pounded wild turkey breast into thin cutlets. Put them to soak in buttermilk until later. Going to make schnitzel or some facsimile since I don't really know what schnitzel is. πππ #hunttoeat
Two tacos, soft shell wrapped around a hard shell for more stability. Served over salad mix, cucumber and sour cream.
Wild rabbit tacos. Served on a bed of lettuce for when the taco contents inevitably fall out of the tacos and create bites of taco salad. No presentation because I'm hungry. #hunttoeat
A salad with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, hard boiled egg, dried cherries, sunflower seeds, shredded cheddar cheese and grilled venison backstrap. Plus a buttered dinner roll.
Grilled venison backstrap on a salad. Life is good today. #hunttoeat
Tweaked just a couple things. Used a can of diced green chilies in the filling and fresh tomato on top instead of Rotel in the filling. Lots more cheese than a "handful". A little cheese in the filling. Most on top. #hunttoeat

A dinner plate with baked beans, potato salad and a wild rabbit cheeseburger topped with mayonnaise, tomato and onion. A Cayman Jack margarita for a beverage.
How many times have I posted this before? Lots I'll bet. My favorite summer meal. Grilled cheeseburger (in this case the meat is wild rabbit), baked beans, tater salad and an adult beverage. #hunttoeat
A taco salad made with wild rabbit meat. And a Cayman Jack margarita for a beverage.
Any meat becomes great tacos. Tonight is ground wild rabbit. I needed a quick and easy dinner after being gone turkey hunting all day and a taco salad fit the bill. And yes I'm eating dinner at the computer desk. π #HuntToEat
Four packages of wild turkey meat wrapped in freezer paper. One package of ground thigh meat 1.7 lbs. One package of bone-in legs. Two packages of breast meat 1.6 lbs each.
Freshly ground wild turkey thigh meat in a metal bowl.
Two wild turkey legs trimmed and ready to be wrapped for the freezer. They are on a green mat.
My wild turkey I shot on Monday is packaged for the freezer. I usually just keep the breast and thigh meat but I'm going to try the legs this year. If I can make groundhog meat fall off the bone tender, I should be able to accomplish turkey legs. ππ¦β₯οΈ #hunttoeat
3 different screens from the Garmin Alpha 100 GPS tracker. The important stats are that I went 2.53 miles, we were out 2 hours and 54 minutes, old dog Lucky went 4.41 miles, young dog Otis went 7.75 miles.
Young dog Otis burrowed into the checkered blanket on a dog bed and fell asleep. Only a small portion of his rear legs and tail are visible.
Old dog Lucky curled up on a blanket on top of a dog bed and sleeping. If this was a video, you would hear her snoring.
2 beagles standing next to a white farm fuel tank. An orange hunting vest is hanging off the fuel tank and a rabbit is sticking out of the game pouch in the vest. A successful rabbit hunt.
The only stats I'm interested in:
1. How far did Otis go
2. How far did Lucky go
3. How far did I go and how long were we outside
4. And are the dogs tired. π
5. Did we have fun? YES!

A bowl of creamy white chili with squirrel meat instead of the traditional chicken.
Creamy white chili made with squirrel meat. Delicious! #HuntToEat #EatWild
