🌱 Large shrubby #native #Magnolia relative, #Illicium parviflorum 'Florida Sunshine'. The green type has grown here since the 1970's and is heat, drought, deer and cold tolerant to minus 15F. Related to the chinese Star Anise but is poisonous to eat.

🌱 salmon pink #Illicium henryi flowers just ahead of the native dark red I. floridanum. Star anise are seed pods of an edible type but most are poisonous look alikes.
