#StudioOne Radio ep #27 "Kitty Foyle" (04-Nov-47).
Having seen Mercedes McCambridge in shows other than #ILoveAMystery is she just aping the far more famous Katharine Hepburn?

Adapts Christopher Morley's Novel (1939) which in between was adapted to a Movie (27-Dec-40).

#ILoveAMystery Do I recommend?

I recommend just doing the complete Mutual serials, include the 1980s & 1990s remake serials, do the 1988 novel and the three 1940s movies.

But there's just no point doing the many incomplete serials as you barely get a flavour of what that original run was like.

#ILoveAMystery Do I recommend?
What remains doesn't really capture the vibe of the show.
"I Love Adventure" is a bad radio show.
The 3 Movies are very decent but lack Michael Raffetto.
The Mutual run is money for old rope but I cannot fault the cast.
The later legacy material is both hit & miss.

#ILoveAMystery Do I recommend?
What remains is a hard sell.
Like #LightsOut the OG run is gone and what Morse has to offer culturally is only tolerable up to the mid 1940s. After that his Radio writing and world view has been superceded. So even the Mutual run feels a mere cash-out project.

#ILoveAMystery Do I recommend?

Without this show there's no #Buffy, no #ScoobyDoo, no #TheGhostBusters, no #Ghostbusters, no #FreakyLinks, no #TheATeam, no #TheLoneGunmen, no #PrettyLIttleLiars as this Radio show fueled the imagination of Silent Generation and Baby Boomers by imprinting itself.

#ILoveAMystery End of walkthrough.]
Ok this took me 7 months as I dragged it out.

Do I recommend?
Well don't do what I did as trying to do this show chronologically became an exercise in archeaology and chasing paperwork. So I'll address my recommendations for this show by era....

#ILoveAMystery Audio #20 "The Fear That Creeps Like a Cat [20]" (1996?).
Final ep ever!!!!
I do recommend going back to listen to the first ep of the Mutual Radio made serial "The Thing That Cries in the Night" to hear the follow on from the outcome of this serial.

#ILoveAMystery Audio #19 "The Fear That Creeps Like a Cat [19]" (1996?).
Ok the second last line item in my "I Love A Mystery Walkthrough"!
I do like this 1996 version and cast so I am tempted to buy it as it's cheap on ebay. But I won't.

#ILoveAMystery Audio #18 ""The Fear That Creeps Like a Cat [18]" (1996?).
I like that their escape attempt was foiled as it was a bit much. So they'll have to try again.

#ILoveAMystery Audio #17 "The Fear That Creeps Like a Cat [17]" (1996?).
I like the trio rallying. It's like Morse finally has a deadline to meet so needs to wrap it up. But he disposes of the main villain in an instant. Oh Carlton!!

#ILoveAMystery Audio #16 "The Fear That Creeps Like a Cat [16]" (1996?).
It wouldn't be an ILAM serial without a panther, so nice to have another one before the end.
We finally get Linda's backstory. Not sure how her sister really fits into that story but that's Morse!

#ILoveAMystery Audio #15 "The Fear That Creeps Like a Cat [15]" (1996?).
This ep is marking time a lot.
I can see now that the last 5 eps of this serial in the 1980s strip were skipped over totally as presumably they weren't drawn at the time due it being cancelled.

#ILoveAMystery Audio #14 "The Fear That Creeps Like a Cat [14]" (1996?).
I'm enjoying the new cast. And this is pure Morse.

#ILoveAMystery Audio #13 "The Fear That Creeps Like a Cat [13]" (1996?).
Morse does make me laugh at him at times. He can either show us Jack & Reggie in prison doing nothing or Doc in a life & death game of high stakes poker. He chooses the former.

#ILoveAMystery Audio #12 "The Fear That Creeps Like a Cat [12]" (1996?).
I can see Morse scrambling for a rationale for the baddie to fill out the run time. He's going with megalomaniac. Subtlety isn't a Morse trait.

#ILoveAMystery Audio #11 "The Fear That Creeps Like a Cat [11]" (1996?).
The actor playing Reggie isn't advertised but I think it's Frank Bresee. However his dialog often seems added in after? As it's 1996 that is a possibility.

As The Mysterious Old Time Radio Listening Society podcast says "Get to the castle!".

#ILoveAMystery Audio #9 "The Fear That Creeps Like a Cat [9]" (1996?).
The new trio worked well together in the card game argument.
The more quixotic (ie vague) Morse plotting works better on audio than comic strip which is an unforgiving format for Morse's loose writing.

#ILoveAMystery Audio #8 "The Fear That Creeps Like a Cat [8]" (1996?).
Doc is muzzled this ep so nice to hear Reggie doing the chats with Jack. I remember these bits from the 1980s comic strip but that comic strip lost its way round about this bit.

Decent stock fare. I think I've acclimatised to the new voices.

#ILoveAMystery Audio #6 "The Fear That Creeps Like a Cat [6]" (1996?).
Morse's depiction of the Pacific Northwest is a bit wilder than I imagined. Maybe it wasn't so built up in 1939 when the original serial first aired.

#ILoveAMystery Audio #5 "The Fear That Creeps Like a Cat [5]" (1996?)
I'm in the home straight of this very disjointed walkthrough. This is seventh different decade of ILAM but the 2000s, the 2010's and the 2020's will have nothing so this audio serial will be it.

#ILoveAMystery Audio #4 "The Fear That Creeps Like a Cat [4]" (1996?).
In the 4 eps we've had 3 women characters. `Will one become the main one?

I like that this 1990's remake uses the famous episode structure despite it being all released on the one audio cassette set.

#ILoveAMystery Radio ep #879 "The Fear That Creeps Like a Cat [3]" (05-Oct-49).
Again nice to compare/contrast with the 1996 re-created ep I linked above.
OK finding 2 mislaid eps from 1949 isn't quite like finding the 2 lost 1965 #DoctorWho eps but still yaaay me!

#ILoveAMystery Radio ep #877 "The Fear That Creeps Like a Cat [1]" (03-Oct-49).
This is actually the very first episode broadcast on the Mutual Network with the New York cast so a not unimportant ep to discover.

NOTE: This is not the 1990s recreated ep.

#ILoveAMystery Audio #3 "The Fear That Creeps Like a Cat [3]" (1996?).
The original cassettes sell cheap on Amazon but I don't have a cassette player and who knows if the audio would be degraded. Plus there's the postage from USA. So best just get them off Archive.

#ILoveAMystery Audio #2 "The Fear That Creeps Like a Cat [2]" (1996?).
The OG serial was reused in that God awful TV Movie and the pretty decent Comic Strip so I can nearly predict the chain of events now even though this is the first time I've listened to this serial.

#ILoveAMystery Audio #1 "The Fear That Creeps Like a Cat [1]" (1996?).

CAST: Jack Packard- Les Tremayne
Doc Long- Tony Clay (unknown?)
Reggie Yates- Frank Bresee (married a Playboy girl)

Not sure when recorded but Tremayne was in his 80s!

Great retro effort TBF!

It was released for sale on audio cassette it seems circa 1996 or maybe earlier.
The serial adapted was "The Fear That Creeps Like a Cat" which originally was Radio eps #199-#218 (23-Oct-39 to 17-Nov-39) titled "Castle island".

#ILoveAMystery Carlton E. Morse dies 24-May-93 age 91.

A complicated character indeed. Part showman, part shyster.
