Finishing off #imc2022 with an excursion to see Hintereisferner and the permanent laser scanner, but the weather (and snow) decided otherwise! Still a success with good discussions and delicious food at the Bella Vista hut! Thanks @prinzofice and @uibk_climate for organizing
Back home after a very fruitful week at #IMC2022 in Innsbruck. Great to make new connections and hear about so many exciting developments in mountain research and at the policy interface ⛰️ Thanks to the organisers! @imountainconf #IMC22
And today, it's the synthesis. Already time to wrap-up. Overall, a wonderful conference in a wonderful location, filled with new ideas, connections and re-connections. And as usual, there was more to see and do than time allowed! Huge thanks the organisers @imountainconf #imc2022
The next day was filled to the brim with mountain water talks! Finally met @BenPelto in-person, and got to see science updates from many science friends, old and new. Here showing @LaurenDSomers @Marit_vanTiel @af_lutz @MichelBaraer. What a treat :) #imc2022
On Tuesday, amongst other great events, we hosted a session. It was very biology-focused (and I'm a hydrologist), so even though I was technically organizing it, I was probably the one in the room who learned the most! #imc2022
After mandatory visits to the climbing gym and the fabulous spinatknödel, it was time for the icebreaker. So many friendly faces! So many amazing people to meet! But it was my first in-person conference in a while, so the crowd was a bit overwhelming. #imc2022
This week was #imc2022 - filled with all flavours of mountains science, and... I was SO happy to be back in Innsbruck after visiting for a wonderful 3 month last year. Coming back felt cozy.
Having a great time representing @PLOSClimate at #IMC2022 in Innsbruck with @EmmaArchervG! Fascinating keynotes on climate change impacts this morning, followed by a session on #adaptation pathways, and now another on progress towards climate neutrality in mountains ⛰️⚡️
Excited to be in Innsbruck for #IMC2022! 🏔️ Bit of a wet start, so hiding from the rain enjoying some coffee and Palatschinken mit Nutella
Bye Leeds! Until next time. It was a pleasure and extremely interesting!

Bevor ich losfahre, noch ein bisschen durch die Uni gegangen und schließlich an der Boom Fair bei Magie gestrandet. Was auch sonst... [PF] #IMC2022
[PF]

Also seen with food. The number of opulent courses (here: 10, which was compared to Florence).
However, not only quantity, but also variety was important.
Material culture -via quantity and variety - was used to separate from "the others".

Interestingly, quantity and not only quality may also be seen as a way of "showing off" prestige.
An example: the number of folds in veils.

Gerhard Jaritz wraps the panel up: Separating from the Others: The 'Laws' of Urban Material Culture.

In modern times, belts turned to more practical uses. However, carrying bags on their belt was a privilege (hopefully, I understood that correctly).
In "folk costumes", belts are also prominent. However, these objects of powere were only for adults!

Illyrian belt plates show authority by their intricacies. Extremely detailed and ornamented.
There are also golden belt buckets from the 9th century, which emphasize that hypothesis. Among many other later belts either made of silver or gold.

The practical advise in the text was never intended for use, but to utter exact commands.

Michael argues how food and household authority went hand-in-hand.
Yet, what is the aim of that manual?
Increasing the prosperity, gain friends, preserve your possessions.
They want to "keep the social status".

Michael incorporates recent research by Greco and Rose.
Concerning obedience, it is rather contradictory in itself. Is the husband the "master" or the wife?
Food: 400 recipes, they turned noble recipes into bourgeois ones.
They were also told to team up.

The Ménagier is a rather interesting guidebook to two specific women. An older husband wrote to his fifteen year old wife. Paternalistic, yet not misogynistic.
"It's demarcating boundaries to lower and higher classes"

However, some games like 'classless' games do not fit the proposed typology and remain a desiderata.

The third step of classes, are a medievalist's social classes: oratores, bellatores, laboratores.
next to Heroes of Might & Magic, Olga also mentions an already discussed game here: Crusader Kings 3.
